Farmer/wild country dweller here. There's some good folks hangin' here, so you're sure to find someone ya can relate to. There's also a few wise asses, myself included once in a while, so BEWARE, but generally speaking, we got some good family goin' on. Post some of your wilderness living experience... We'd love to hear it. Peace
But, where are you Retread? You just disappeared after your provocative introduction. Now we all want to know more about your experiences in the wilderness. Did you go back ? Did you "tire" of waiting for responses? Did you decide to hit the road, with no time to "spare". Hope to hear from you again, sounds intriguing........
If most of the people on this board were really "hippies", were would they get all that time to post on the internet? There are people here that talk about living in communes and working hard and if you look at how many times they have posted here its like 150-400 posts. that means that a lot of them are on the internet just about 3veryday doing this. i would call anyone a "hippie" if thats what they want to be called, but i think that allot of people on this board live pretty much like everybody else. they go on the internet a lot and watch lots of t.v. some of the provocative stories that are on this board from "hippies" also come from people that are just being sarchastic towards hippies. for example there was a chick on this board saying that she had one child after the other for three years. she said that she is looking for a babysitter, that should be open-minded and take care of the kids. she also added that she'll pay for transport, food bla bla bla. firstly nobady looks for babysitters on a message board(unless the forum is especially for that purpouse). secondly it is so obvious from the story that the chick was just being sarchastic, she didnt even replay to the people that voluntered to take care of her children...lol. i'm sure a lot of people here used to be hippies and go to demonstrations, but judging from your count of posts i can now see what a lot of you do a lot of the time. i'm not insulting hippies, i'm sure a lot of you tell the truth about your life and stuff. however a lot of people just come here to live in a land of make-believe.
Your post is pretty much all over the place-First you say you don't think real hippy's would have time to post in a forum everyday-Thats silly-I spend more time on the phone-I am a retired hippy so I have plaenty of time to surf but even when I was working I found time to post on forums-How long does it take to type 6 or7 lines?--I don't understand your question of where a hippy would get the time to be online?-Why would a hippy have any more or less time then anyone else?-Are we supposed to be digging in gardens all day?-
Years in the Wilderness.... Methinks you misunderstand. I was speaking in metaphor. The "wilderness" was not a place exactly--although that can be part of it--but the years spent in a dead end job. Finally, I could take no more and dropped back out, more or less. The fellow that is talking about how hippies don't have time to be on the internet shows he is probably pretty young. The original "hippies" would have been the first ones on the net. Hippie does not mean barefoot twentyfour seven. Hippie is just a label that helps people to look for venuess that might be friendly, but it is not a rule bound regimental tag. At least I don't see it that way. I left the wilderness to come back to full time creation of art etc. Enough said.
Retread, I actually thought you meant a mountain wilderness somewhere, and that would have been an interesting story I am sure. I now understand there are different wildernesses, and I also left the wilds for a more civilized hippie lifestyle when I went to the courthouse and got birth certificates for myself, my partner, and my five children after never having these identification documents for 30 years. We could not really participate in the society around us, and we were living in a psuedo wilderness. We had no electricity,(no tv, movies, radio , lights etc.) and lived in tents in the woods near a medium size city. We led a very unconventional lifestyle, and were considered "hippies" by everyone who knew us. Little by little we changed and joined the community around us, but still are quite the non-conformists. We weren't out "demonstrating", or having sit ins or protests , but our example of simplicity and non-materialism was still a demonstration of people who wanted to drop-out as far as they could , and still maintain a modicum of functionability and have a family. I guess Retread felt he had dropped out for awhile, and wanted to reconnect with others on the forums who had hippie inclinations. Welcome back to civilization, and good luck !!!!! I think hippies love the internet because it makes them ONE with everyone on a global scale, and I know I have time in my life for the forums, and still be an effective and accomplished person. I guess there are different degrees of involvement here on the forums, and sometimes I am a little embarrassed that I might be excited to check here a couple of times a day. I once had five children who depended on me, and now they are all living elsewhere, and I don't have an automobile, and live in a rural area, so having conversation buddies on Hip Forums plays an important part in my life for now. Also I get to practice at effective and creative writing, poetry, and at keeping on trying to be funny. I also love movies, and as with everything else in life, all things in moderation make for a well balanced and meaningfull existence.
i agree with you guys, hippies arnt always like those sex-crazy, wild adventure dudes on the t.v.-but a lot of people on this forum want us to believe that they are. they describe themselvs as if they were tarzan or jane-but if you look at the number of posts that they have then you can see that the only thing that they swing is there mouse on there computer.
The lack of computer does not a hippy make. Some of us hippys actually are a bit isolated from other hippys due to where and how we live, etc. So spending time on a hippy forum ain't no different than goin' visiting, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper on gas.
