Here is what will probably be my first, of very few Restaraunt reviews.

    Hoffbrauhaus: Bavarian style cuisine.

I just returned home from my wife's birthday dinner. We were utterly disapointed by both the atmosphere, and the cuisine. The fish was over-cooked, the potato salad way too spicy, the beer had no flavor for dark beer. I do not recommend
this establishment to anyone. You just can't GET decent german or bavarian food since the "Alpine Village" closed its doors.

Hey Matt have you ever tried "Cafe Heidelburg" 610 East Sahara? It's as authentic as we have found. No draft beer but an incredibly large selection of obscure German imports, very good food and the bread is baked on premise.

I remember the Alpine Village Inn quite well, the Rathskeller, the black waiters in lederhosen, those were the days :)

My wife (caffinated bea?) and I are headed to Germany in a couple of days to spend the holidays with her family. I'll be sure to pound many beers for the Nevada Hippies on this board.

    Aufwiedersehen

Aha, another person with some German heritage. My mom was pure German. I went to Germany back in 77 for my Grandfather's funeral. I spent a month there. I was only 13 at the time, but I got served in the bars. I was in Cologne, Bonn, and Frankfurt. Stayed in a small town called Unkel on the banks of the Rhine River. A real beautiful place.

Your description reminds me of a little bar I don't know if it still exists, but it one in my mind is/was inside the Meadows Mall. It was named 'Der Barons' 101 bears from around the world, plus fantastic food.

Der Barons closed many many years ago. Too many people getting drunk and going through the mall. I was one who drank all 101 beers and got a t-shirt. The worst beer of all time I drank there. It was a Sami Klaus. 13 percent alcohol content and it tasted like a bad champagne.

I remember Der Barons and Sami Klaus.... Sami Klaus was at the time the strongest beer in the world based on specific gravity not alcohol content (meaning you could fall into a vat of the stuff and not sink) I remember it having a distinct Vicks Formula 44 flavor and generating wallpaper peeling farts (Sami Klaus flatulence probably played a big role in shutting down Der Barons)

We're outta here Thursday morning, Stuttgart and then to Alsfeld. Hope you all have a great holiday.
