There's this new lady at work. She's ok...nice. But every year, we always get one new hire that's just WEIRD. I mean, they're always older ladies (40's, 50's)...and they never last long here (a guest service call center at a ski resorts). They don't last long because they're out of touch with technology. We use computers, radioes, multiple phone lines....copiers...hah. These ladies are just lost! This one, she's nice...they always are, but just obnoxious! I mean, they don't use the internet, so while not working, they sit there staring at the blank screen or reading or what have you. This one....she stares at whatever I'm doing on the internet in her spare time. I mean, I'm writing emails, and she's blatantly leaning in to get a better look. I'm doing my regular boredom internet surfing, and she's just leaning back....checkin' out what I'm checkin' out. It's like she's never seen anyone use the internet before! It's so annoying! What do I say? "don't look at my screen?" That just sounds bitchy. And she fills the weird silence in the office by pointing out the obvious. (ie) I'm looking at a picture of nature hikes, she says ...."woa....that's some serious hiking...." "yea....." or I'm looking at whatever, fucking clowns, i don't know "......that clown has a red nose...." ".......yea....he does..." I'm constantly being watched! Ugh! I mean, I understand when she wants to learn about our job, I don't mind her leaning over to watch me. I don't like it....but its our job. In our spare time...doing nothing, she's still there, peeking over, leaning in....looking at my screen. Finally, today I'm in a corner cubicle. No one to peek at me today.
aww, thats always difficult, because you have to work with her, so you cant even really be rude, or bitchy. you could try nice, polite hints though?
Pull up a screen with really big writing about how annoying it is for people to read over your shoulder, and hope she gets the point. Or a website about killing annoying middle aged women in thier sleep. Then she should catch on.
Eek, I've had similar experience. It's no fun. I would try and send subtle hints such as moving the screen when she leans in.
How about teaching her? Ask her what she is interested in and find a site or 2 for her to look around in.
