does anyone live there?? If so, PLEASE PLEASE let me know, I am in love with it and have a million questions..heh.. Also, I love small little ocean towns...if anyone lives there where like there are surfers all around and smiley happy people, please tell me about it..I hate where I live and want to move to the ocean so bad
Hey Surf, I don't live there, I'm a little further north in Delaware, but I hang out there much. What is it that you would like to know?
horay! someone, finally. Oh man, OKAY! heh...what is it like in the winter? what are the high schools likes? what are the people like? what do you all do for fun, do you hang out at the beach? do you get annoyed by the tourists and stuff? lol this sounds a little weird..BUT, I LOVE going there and I always wonder what it would be like to live there (or any beach town really) and I always wonder about the "locals" and stuff, lol, thanks!
No problem, I don't find your questions to be annoying at all. To start, I can honestly say that most people who are from the area don't care for the tourists much, at least not the rude ones. We call them Tourons and Terrorists (before the word terrorist became so damn trendy) You know the type that think they own the place, or the ones who can't drive. Sometimes it takes 30 or 40 minutes to just go 5 miles down the street for a pack of smokes, because the traffic is so jammed up. I laugh when the police give them tickets for running the lights and speeding. The locals know most of the police there so they leave them alone, and if you take the back roads you are better off. A lot of people stay home, or away from the beach in the summer because it is too crowded. The locals there are pretty normal, just like any other town, I'd say half are into the beach scene and the other half hate it or just do their own thing. There are quite a few rednecks down that way because there isn't much industry except for farming chickens. The other thing that sucks about it is that all of the prices are so inflated in the summer that it is ridiculous. But I suppose that is the point of the tourism industry, just be careful not to get ripped off, because merchants do it all of the time. As far as places to chill there, I don't know how old you are but Mellow Beach is pretty cool, they have good local bands. Their drinks are pricey though, so expect to shell out or not drink. Everyone else from around there usually hangs out at the hole in the wall type places that people drive by and don't give a second thought to. I'm not sure if you are aware but there are quite a few wealthy people down there in the summertime, many famous ones. Vin Deisel or however you spell his name, used to hang out at Secrets, I'm not sure if he still does now. And Bruce Willis has been known to drop in, as well as Stephen King and some others. Now, for me personally, I love the beach, and I go as often as I can. I just wish someone would explain to me why when there is a whole 60 miles of beautiful beach, why someone has to bring their screaming kids and put their umbrella and blanket almost right on top of mine! It is quite frustrating. Why oh why can't everyone just spread out, there is plenty of ocean to go around! In the winter it is beautiful, the beach that is. The town itself is dead and most establishments are not even open in the winter months. And the stop lights are all set to blinking so you don't have to stop every other block! That is pretty cool, and the cops don't bug in the winter. It's a pretty nice place for the most part. If you are ever coming to visit again, let me know and I can show you around some more or something. Take care now! Peace & Hugs
ohh man thank you! Well, actually I come to Ocean City EVERY year, I have since I was 2, so I am pretty familiar with the place. I want to move there SOOO much because I just love the whole vibe and stuff, and the whole 'being a local' thing. LoL, I love the idea of getting up and going surfing and then going to work, and everything being so mellow and laid back, you know? The only reservation I have is the winter. I just don't know if I could take everything being so deserted and everything, I think that would really upset me. Thank's so much for answering all my questions!
ocean city's awesome. i go a few times every summer. i live about two and half hours away. it's worth the drive. i love that city. it's crazy, and the beach is great...love it love it love it
I know, it's so much fun there...man, I wish I was there now..............................................
I drove buses for OC last summer, and i had alot of fun. I was living in Salisbury at the time, and drove(unfortunately) the 30 miles to work everyday! Then on my days off i would drive 2 hours back to montgomery county to work there so i can keep my non-seasonal job! I havent gone to OC yet this year.
I personally can't stand Ocean City because it's too commercialized and trendy and just...arrr! The smaller beaches around the area are nice though.
fuck OC! assateague and chincoteague are more awesome places....better beaches and camping!....also fresher seafood
hey guys, im an ocean city native born and raised..if any of you guys are heading this way,, make sure to let me know and i'll ensure you have a good time.. peace jh
My main residence is in Linthicum, MD. Near Baltimore. I'm about 2-2 and half hour away from OC. But, my family has a house in Bethany Beach, DE, so I spend a lot of time there and seeing as how Bethany is so close to OC, I go to OC quite often. Let me just tell you, the best place in OC- The Sandbar. Voted best karaoke in 2004, 2005, and 2006. It's the best place ever. I also like jetskiing during the summer.
