when you use down syndrome as a degragatory term you are influencing others who read the post. Next time they go out into the community and see a person with a disability they are going to not see them as a valued and productive member of society because of those who think it is cool to make fun of those who are mentally retarted, they will not become mainstreamed with society.

 

umm are you saying poeple with downs are valued and productive? maybe valued, as human beings, but ive never seen of or heard of a productive downs person. none. all they do is give employment to poeple-carers, special needs programs, and make litlte kids get scared, and older kids laugh.

i was actualyl very politically correect if you read properly and you shall see i did not say they were less valued humans. Accepting downs syndrome people for who they are means accepting them as poeple with major disabilities, not as normal people who can function in a normal society.

they need more care and compassion and to be treated accordingly, and when i say that i dont mean put in teh gutter and insulted and spat on, i mean treated with special care, in special environments. downs syndrome poeple cannot live happy fulfilling lives if theyre jsut treated like normal poeple. because one of the major aspects of their ilness is the very fact that they cannot function normally and socially acceptably.

by saying this your encouraging others to treat people with down syndrome like you would.. that is like crap, that not being a decent human being, takign care of their special needs is a part of EVERYONE'S right AND RESPONSABILITIES as humans need to help other humans as to make our society more people friendly more liviable... better for everyone, not just us, programs to help thoes who cant function as well as others need money, and resources, we need to be thoes resources, if your not going to give to them, dont put them down, oh n btw, people with down syndrom arent attached to a respirator and can barely move..most arent anyways.. they can still be a member of society that is quite prominant and can live on their own if they are guided in the right path at an early age... your very eloquent, maybe if a family member of yours were hit, you wouldnt find such comedy of down or any other illness... or maybe you would, depends on whats in your heart... n thats something your gonna have to figure out.. I wont tell u how to run ure life, but think about how you see things... maybe if you werent so selfish instead of putting them down you dont have to go to the community center every week, but not saying anythign of the sort could help?
