I tried dying my hair dark brown a few weeks ago with some dye a lady at sallys beauty supply reccomended to me, but it didn't stay in very long, and only a few days after my hair was kind of dull, not the nice shiny color i wish it would have been? what are some hair dyes you have found that work well? any reccomendations? please!
Was it the kind in the bottle with a squirt-top? Jazzing or the like, they just don't stick. Chemical rich, but I've had good results with Natural Instincts by Clairol, and ColorSpa Moisture Actif by L'oreal...the latter being especially good. They're both semi-permanent so they're not super-damaging, and they eventually wash out, so if you hate the color you're not stuck with it. That said, both of them lasted pretty long on me. I was strawberry blonde for months after dying my hair red with Natural Instincts a couple years back..not that I minded though. If you're going to be dying your hair, try and be especially gentle with it, and deep-condition as much as possible to minimize damage and keep it looking healthy.
I found l'oreal feria worked well for me, but my hair loves holding onto dye. And I think it's permanent. Make sure you have a shampoo/conditioner designed for coloured hair as well, that helps the colour stay a lot longer
dye simply won't stick to healthy, well-conditioned hair. You have to damage it really good first, with bleach or something else. Dye works best if you make the PH of your hair basic before dying, and then rinse afterwards with something acidic. This website is about unnatural hair colors, but the advice would work just as well, if not better, for regular hair dyes. http://haircrazy.info/If you want permanent color, don't use non-permanent dye You can help the color stay longer by switching to a milder shampoo, but it usually takes your scalp a month or two to adjust to a different cleaning routine.
you can't really dye your hair more than 2 or 3 shades difference without it fading if it's darker or brassing if it's lighter. Maybe a demi-permanent would work better for you? I get whatever is not in the highlite foils colored brown and it lasts around 3 months, which is way better than when I used to try to go dark brown or super blonde.
So, are you going for permanent or temporary? I've had pretty good results when I've used Loreal and Clairol Nice N Easy. For all the damage it does to your hair, being someone who does it on occasion then lets it grow out, I don't really notice any damage... If anything, it seems healthier after using the deep conditioners that are usually included in the kit. But those are permanent dyes... And I just go a couple of shades difference, I imagine it would be worse if I tried to go platinum blonde!
well, initially i was thinking permanent, though not i'm thinking semi-permanent because eventually around summer i want to go back to blonde, so i was thinking that if i only did semi permanent, it would fade and be easier to go back to blonde, since im planning on dying it such a dark brown. the only thing im worried about is that if i do the semi permanent, it will eventually start to fade and be inbetween that nice dark brown rich color and a dish watery kind of color when it's fading. has that happened to you? thanks!
I went from naturally light, light blonde hair to an extremely dark-almost black dye. It didn't fade....I used a $3.00 bottle of dye....Revlon Color Silk. My hairdresser said I have great, healthy hair....so, it doesn't have to be damaged for hair color to stick. Some hair just doesn't hold color well. Shop around until you find a dye that works for you. Just don't dye more than once every 4-6 weeks.
