This past Monday I decided to pierce the very center of my lip. Though we used a needle a little larger than 16 gauge the 16 gauge jewlery would not go through. So I decided to put in a temporary ear ring, 18 gauge, for the time being. I had planned to stretch it to a standard size later but the ring really started to irritate my skin. I went to my local piercing shop and they force gauged it right there to a 14 free of charge but put a labret stud in aswell. The stud is really bothering my lip aswell because the way I pierced my lip was never meant for this kind of jewlery. My teeth keep catching on it and it is near impossible to eat. I was just wondering how long I should wait before it would be safe to switch over to a ring. I would like to change it as soon as possible. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Take it out, let it heal and have it done properly by a professional. If the labret stud is catching/rubbing on your teeth, your placement is bad. A ring will rub on your teeth too.
The ring did not rub on my teeth at all. This labret is too big because they expected it would be swelling... Though it didden't. I pierced it higher up because I never planned on wearing a labret. I had a professional check the piercing. So, I am just wondering a safe ammount of time to give it before putting in a ring.
well it would probly take a few weeks to heal properly but for it to healso you can switch jewelery maybe a week or two. make sure to clean the piercing and if the jewelery irritates you then take it out and let the piercing heal then have a professional do it correctly.
Alright, thanks for the response. That is what I was figuring. It seems to be healing well. The swelling did go up a bit the next day but it is starting to disipate now. The only thing that looked strange to me was a little bit of the skin on the inside of my mouth under the flat plate of the labret stud. It looks like there is a bit of dead skin (very small) on one side of the piercing but that is to be expected from what I have seen. Thanks for the responses though.
yeah the bit of skin is to be expected. i have that with all three of my tongue rings. well like i said before keep the jewelery clean and the piercing clean and after you eat smoke or what not clean it k. i just cannot stress enough the importance of keeping the jewelery clean and the piercing. i guess cuz i have seen so many people get infections after they got their piercings.. well if you have any more questions on piercings or on anything really dont be afraid to pm me or email me k.
