Maybe its all in the view point, but then again from our viewpoint it means that time is ultimately not constant, hence buddha was right, everything is impermanent.

Shaggie and Tony. [the silent one. [IMG], you got smarts]

    The only questions occam asked
    were
Is time dilation a physical phenomenological event
[thats one big word. vies with presditigitation. i got xanthosis.. hehe]
    It seems it is
    Then
What existed before the bang singularity.

    no answer

So one answer out of two... not bad as things go for
    an advocati diaboli ;)

As we agreed, this is a freindly discussion. Dont take any seemingly agressive dialogue as some personal thing.
There can be NO personal thing.
Occam knows NOT who you are and will never meet you.
to occam you are but pixels on his screen
    And will always be so.

    No no no no.

A generalist is NOT an area of expetise.
    It is
ONE who has an expertise in knowing something of all areas

Occam is dedicated to being what few even realise exists any more,
a tinker. The concept of the 'tinker' is being destroyed by society.
why,, because they are a threat. A tinker cannot be controlled.
His personal resources are able to sustain him against the will of the 'state'

    A generalist. [tinker]

    Knows something of astronomy
    of geoplotics
    of history
    of cars
    of how people work.
    of weaponry
    of psychiatry
    of geology
    of biology
    of etimology
    of paediatrics
    of quantum physics
    of mathematics
    of computers [especially]
    of war
    of human deception
    of comedy
    of love and emotion
    of parenthood
    of tragedy
    of rhinoplasty
    of poetry
    of music
    of wit
    of theater
    of fiction

And thats just the 1st 20 on a list 10 thousand lines long.

Generalism is WAY harder to achieve than any specific 'speciality'
A good generalist can do and fix just about anything.
Can fight a war, can create a society, can write a novel.

A good mathematician, can do math well. ;)

Philosophy does interest me and I do try and read on the subject. But after reading philosophy books your often left thinking, and? I have yet yet to conclude anything from philosophy other than anything goes, whihc is ok in the mind, indeed the freedom is nice. To me philosophy is a start not an end, your right scientific method came at least in part from rationalist philosophy, but the minute it did anything it stopped becoming philosophy. Look at Marx, he applied philosophy and could have done quite well but for the fact he was a far better philospher than economist.

Heres another example, im not sure who to acknowledge it to, but it wasnt me. If we take the many worlds theory to be correct then there are an infinite number of universes. I every 1 in 10000000000000000000000000 (that was entirely random) has life then there are an infinite number of universes with life. Now assume that a tiny fraction of these are intelligent ot the extent that they can build a computer capable of simulating the entire universe. An accurate universe simulation would therefore evolve intelligent life in it. Given all the infinities above there are an ifinite number of such civilisations which means there is a good chance we are the product of a computer simulation (remind anyone of a good film with two less good sequals circa '98). As your measing ability gets better we could in theory know if we are in such a simulation by detecting the slight defects in the universe coming form rounding erros in the machine, which after all just a simulation allbeit a very good one. This is a very interesting philosophical conundrum but unless true nothing more than something to impress the relatives with over christmas dinner. Philosophy comes up with new meanings and ideas and usually you can force them to fit something about how we currently see the world, but it never tells us anything, to do that we actually have to look and discover which makes philosophers run for the hills, much like mathematicians in that respect.

    Sorry,

you guys are are smart and together.
    Keep that up.
There are 3 species on this planet that are self aware.
    SO science method decrees

    Humans, chimps and orangutangs.

The fact that science method has allowed such.
Has broken a chain of hate and fear and stupidity
    10 thousand years long.

Occam has guilt that he attacted this method and its ties with philosopy
    in even a mild way.

    Please accept my appology

All these long in depth posts eventually come back to the same things. Normally where did the universe come from either from a quantum mechanical or relativistic angle. Alternatively theres the whats is science anyway angle. I'm sure ive written the same handful of posts quite a few times, I should probably save templates for them or maybe it does me good to rethink it each time.

    Is not it all but.
If it cant be disproved by current methods.
It must be accepted as fact by the methodologists.

Yet there seems more to it than this.
Have you not ever felt that the sun on your face s REAL.
That a step of a cliff is a REAL end.

    Instinct?

Technically all you can say is that they're real experiences. We may be in some matrix type thing or this maybe a virtual environment set up by some deity to 'test' or 'judge' our soul. Either way I do agree that in any of these scenarios walking off a cliff is unlikely to be any good for me.
