Recently I've been craving meat a lot. Chicken, steak, fish, bacon... all things that have popped into my mind of things that would taste good. I havn't eaten beef since August 21, chicken since August 22 and I havn't eaten fish since... October 1st. (Pork was never really in my diet much, so I don't even know when the last time I ate that was) I feel bad for wanting to eat meat, but for some reason I just do. I am trying to make sure I eat enough of everything else and trying to eat lots of protein, but I'm still left craving meat. It's odd. I think I might try till the end of the year to stay a vegetarian and eat as balanced of a diet as possible and see if it helps. I got some fake ground beef for tacos and some fake chicken, both by Quorn, I plan on trying the taco "meat" tonight, maybe its all just a flavor thing in certain recipes that I am craving. I really don't want to not be a vegetarian. IF I did revert back to eating meat, I'd probably only eat seafood, and not a lot at that, which I know isn't being a vegetarian, but does there come a point in time where after trying and trying your body needs what your body is telling you it needs?

If you're surely getting all the nutrients you need (especially iron, B12, magnesium, zinc, etc) then maybe it's not your body giving you the cravings. Maybe the cravings are coming from your mind. It hasn't been that long, so I think cravings at this point are pretty natural. Just keep at the veg diet if you really want to do it. The longer you're veg, the easier it is.

It seems like a great idea to keep trying lots of veg meat substitutes. There are some great ones out there and they're becoming more & more popular. You can also make really yummy & satisfying burgers out of beans of various types. Try seitan (great for stir-fries) if you've never tried it. It is wheat gluten and tastes a bit like chicken. And I highly recommend getting a Tofurky roast for the holidays. It totally tastes like turkey & even smells like turkey while it's cooking. Mmmm... now I'm hungry.

Tried the quorn meatless grounds or whatever they are... they were decent, but I realized when I was eating them that I just don't like the texture be it meat or fake meat. Maybe my problem is just that I have a very strong aversion for a lot of textures and I don't have many options that seem to cut it for me. Maybe I'm craving meat because it's comfortable and what I've known for the past 25 years, maybe I'm craving it because it's a stressful time of year for me (and most people) maybe I should just stop eating food in general, I hate chewing and digesting anyway! (Just kidding! I know I have to eat to live.) But really, maybe I'm just having these feelings and cravings because it isn't easy being a vegetarian, but you know what? I'm alright with that. I guess whats right isn't always easy. Right?

I agree with barter mama, it is probably all in your mind. It has not been that long since you have been away from meet, so your mind is probably telling you you want it simply because it is what you have been use to. If you are a round other people eating meat a lot it probably makes things even worse. It has been two years for me, but every now and then I will get cravings for meat. I realize that it is just in my mind and can now easily disreguard it. If I think about actually eating meat it seems very unappealing.

mlo, I don't think you are kidding about not eating based on other threads.
you have some issues you MUST address.
as for meat cravings, they happen and you can go with them or not and it is totally up to you.
when I think that'll be a great idea, I remember my previous lapses (all winter, btw, perhaps a cold/comfort/density link?) and how badly I felt physically afterward.

try making a huge pot of chili or bean soup, or some other rich, fatty comfort food, check that you are eating enough to live on at all, and take a decent multi-vit.

Yeah, maybe I'm not kidding, but I wouldn't actually act on it and not eat... Like I said, I know I have to eat to live. I was looking at this one website and it takes in all that you eat in a day and calculates weather or not you're meeting your daily requirements for nutrients and all... I only met two. So I think I have to all around look into what I'm eating. I'll figure it out at some point.
