Do most places use bacon to cook their pinto beans? I researched and just found that Chipolte does but I don't really eat there anyway. (I actually had an instinct when I went and got black beans). I don't really like black beans but I definitely don't want to be eating bacon juice! I guess I could just ask when I went there but who knows if you can believe them.. and I don't like asking stuff. =P So is there a way to find out? Or should I just avoid pinto beans and get used to black beans? Thank you!
any beans CAN be prepared with pork (usually) it's up to the restaurant. alwasy alsways ask about it and lard, too. I'm on the phone with Qdoba..... (after long interminable wait-good lord, this IS Colorado we HAVE vegheads) Ok, pintos at Qdoba are vegetarian. Soup has the always iffy "natural flavors" listing. BUT, how often is restaurant tortilla soup even close to veg?
Hm yeah then I guess it is a good idea to ask. I'll stop being so shy hah. Cuz then I get my food and I start freaking out.. Thanks for asking that place.. I've never heard of it though.
Mexican refried beans are traditionally cooked with lard, so always be sure to ask about stuff like that. Some restaurants will offer "whole beans" instead of refried, which often isn't cooked in lard. Yep, being veg & eating out can kinda force you to be outspoken & ask a lot of questions.
I asked for the pinto beans at Chipotle once, and the guy said it had bacon in it. I thought it was pretty cool of him to tell me that (and I'm glad cause I wouldnt have thought about bacon in the pinto beans). I do advise asking when eating out, especially for refried beans
Yeah I actually went to Chipolte the other day and noticed where it says "Vegetarian" on the menu it says BLACK beans and guacamole. So they're not trying to hide it. I don't like their burritos though but hey they seem like a cool thing. Thanks for responding guys.
