When Im older of course. I wanna make it unique and different, Its something Ive been thinking about for a long time. Also, I wanna do in-store glass blowing, wouldnt that be tight? I came up with a name for it, 'The Lotus'.. and have the flower in a blue and black color scheme, make it real tripped out looking and abstract.

Just thought I'd share my idea. Maybe start it in canada?

in store glass blowing seems a little far fetched, yet a great idea. the furnace, insulation, ventilation, and space needed would cost A LOT of money.
to install the furnace, then you'd probably have to own the location, rather then rent, because it would pretty much require a complete renovation.

anyway, owning a headshop would be awesome.
would you supply only blown glass or would you also supply bulk glass?

yeah doing onsite glassblowing would require a lot of work.. it was just an idea of mine that seemed cool. I imagine if the shop was a success, anything would be possible from there on? But I was thinkin of doin all kinds of blown glass and bulk.

Im not just talking about pipes, bongs, etc.. Im talkin about providing hemp clothing, accessories, stash boxes, posters.. the whole nine yards that would attract many of people. That'd be a place I certanly would make a trip to see..

if i lived in michigan id stop by! and yea, that glass blowing idea sounds really nice. in edition to what willy wanka said about it, youd also have to have a mad lot of space. you could totally pull it off though if you have enough money and such for it.

to start a business you require (besides many other things, obviously) a competitive advantage. Doing what everyone else does will take you no where.

I think you have an interesting idea there STA. I'd definitely become a loyal customer.

I've never understood how any headshop can stay in business solely from the sell of pipes, posters, etc.

lets do some basic accounting...lets say your monthly costs for wages rent etc are 3600. that comes from a business rent and utilites etc of 1800 and lets say you pay 60 hours of work a week at 7.50 an hour at four weeks a month thats also 1800. I think these costs are a low ball estimate but they give us easy figures to work with. Now lets take the cost of goods. Lets say that 60% of our selling price is the price you pay that gives you a fairly high markup percent of 40 aka your CMR.

so to get your breakeven cost in sales you take your fixed costs of 3600 and divide by your CMR....3600/.4=9000. That means after taking in 9000 you've paid for your products, your building and your employees. yet you have nothing in your pocket. No food, no car, no place to live. sure you can cut out some of the employee cost but then that means your life is dedicated to the shop and you have no time to enjoy yourself. Headshops are just not fiscally sound IMO

In house glassblowing seems kinda hard. I always go to the same shop because (1) it has the illest glass in town and (2) there is a pizza shop that sells $5 large cheese pizzas right next door. Maybe instead of blowing the glass you could have a snack bar or something with nice munchie foods. I know that when me or my friends go into a headshop we are usually pretty ripped so I think the food part could bring in some extra money.

Me and my fiance are thinking of starting a headshop too. You can run with this idea if you want......it is gonna be a headshop/tattoo parlor. I will run the headshop area and Kari will run the tattoo area.

If any of you are ever in Georgia, go to Starship Enterprises. Wonderful combination of bongs and porn.

Hahaha yeah man. I used to work there.....during the third shift, because it's open 24/7. Porstars would occasionally come in there and take pictures with the customers and flash their titties around. I couldn't have my pictures taken with them though, because I worked there. I'd rather have discounts on bongs than to have my picture taken with a pornstar though:spliff:
