Take this mans advice FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! The archive is like a goddamned gold mine! waste no time! leave this place at onece and go there now. thank you~ and go buy American Beauty, Workingman's Dead, and Aoxamoxoa, and oh yeah, Anthem of the sun. but thats it~
wot up? ATL right here<<<<<< whats up with that pic? Trey's put on a few huh? I guess layin' off the powder helps a little.
Archive is definitely incredible. I uninstalled further.net when I discovered it. That shit was always too slow anyway and ate up my memory. But don't tell everyone. Let's keep that shit secret so people don't clog up the bandwidth. (shhhh) I'm with you on the Cornell show. That is one of the all time greats. I have to add RFK '73 to the list (the date escapes me at the moment). It was with the Allmans. Three full sets! It's funny you mention the Madison show because I was in the Sunshine Daydream shop on State Street last weekend and they have an original poster from that show on the wall by the door. Weird, huh? And as for studio albums, go with Blues for Allah. That's my fave.
I would have to vote the Dark Star from Fillmore East 2/13/70 as my favorite - 30 minutes of insanity. I do believe it is a Dick's Picks disc, but again, it can be had for free at archive.
If you must buy a show, I also recommend Dick's Picks volume six. Hartford Civic Center 10/14/83. Best Scarlet > Fire I've ever heard. '83 was a VERY good year for them. edit: I've probably played disc two 500 times. Scarlet > Fire Estimated > Eyes It doesn't get much better. edit again: ok maybe not 500, but a lot.
i bought the boxed set. its going to take me a while to digest it all. the anthem of the sun album has good things on it. born cross eyed is a good song. and the cd of early stuff is great. "in the pines" - they do a good version of that. some of the songs on america beauty are good. ill have to give it all more time. its a lot to take in at once. so many CDs! the book that comes with the boxed set is great too. great photos and good insight.
