cliver Barker isn't too bad, I like "The Hellbound Heart" and "Cabal". The only book that I could get into by Anne Rice was "The Vampire Lestat" and that got boring after a while.

Clive Barker's book are awesome, and for Anne Rice I like Interview with the Vampire. Its a very desolate, lonely book, and I think the later ones are less so. >_< They're fine up until after Queen of the Damned. Armand isn't too bad either.

As for Clive, I would recommend Abarat and Imajica, as well as the one's Hungry Joe mentioned.

I don't really know about any Clive Barker books, but I do enjoy the few Anne Rice novels that I own. They're not my preferred genre but they're still nicely written and interesting.

Been reading Clive Barker for over 20 years. I adore his work. His action figured frighten me a little and some of his work has been wrecked by Hollywood (and Borehamwood). But he rocks.

What are his (Clive Barker) books like? Similar style or themes to Anne Rice or completely different? I really don't know much about him...

clive is excellent! his works often have a spiritual/magickal theme to them, but it's his own sense of spirituality so you don't feel like anyone is preaching to you ;)

he has fabulous graphic imagery, a real knack for creating a reality and being able to convey it to the reader, and the majority of his work is pretty sexy, too!

i'm currently re-reading all of clive's work in chronological order - what a ride!

my fave work has got to be the damnation game, but i also dig coldheart canyon and the great and secret show

Hmm, gotta say, from what you say the sound good....though I guess you ARE biased. Hmm, I may look at picking up a second hand copy of one to see if I like it.

i don't think you'll be disappointed, although for a first read, i'd recommend one of his novels over a book of his short stories - the short stories are good, but he's such an adept at an intricate plot i prefer his longer works - he creates all these wonderful threads of storyline and weaves them together to make a fabulous tapestry of horror...

....yes, i suppose i AM biased, hehehe ;)
