OH MY GOD! What the fuck is wrong with people who absolutely NEED to lie about everything they do? My best friend and housemate used to lie when we were like 13 but then he seemed to have stopped. Whenever i'd confront him with a lie he'd just stonewall me. Now, 9 years later he lies about the rent to my dad, you know, things that are worth lying for. But this most recent one really takes the cake. He tells me that his mom is coming in from Ohio and shes taking him to his brother's birthday party. I was away that night, but he told me that he went to the party and told me all the crap that happened in great detail, it was amusing. His mom just called me (since he doesn't have a phone because he won't pay his phone bill yet refuses to admit this) to see if he will be around next week for when she comes in from Ohio, and also to invite me to his brother's birthday party. This is like the freekin twilight zone. I don't know what to do. How can I have a friend that I can't trust? Should I confront him or just ignore it and accept the fact that I cannever believe a single word he says? This isn't like, a character flaw, this is pathological behavior and though its pretty harmless its also pretty scary. Anyone else dealt with crap like this?

I'd just not bother htalking to him, don't initiate contact. I don't mean ignore him if he reaches out to you, but don't think of him as a close friend and I wouldnt' put in all that much effort into the relationship
