Surely to be cared for kindly, fed and sheltered, by people who choose to adopt them?

Well if you want an argument about using animals in lab experiments I dont see MUCH of a problem with that so long as its done in such a way and for such a reason thats not trivial. If for example someone wants to find a cure for cancer of diabetes, fine - if its a cosmetics company putting shit into rabbitts eyes then let the company die not the rabbit we dont lipstic to survive but the rabbit needs its eyes.
I dont agree with animal rights protesters who put the interests of animals above people, but I dont agree with cosmetics companies who put profits before the humane and civilised notion that animals do not benifit from cosmetics and people dont need them to survive

What rights does the average "man" have now? I for one extend all considerations to all other living beings. To deny the rights of some is to open the door to dimsicrimate against many.

what if I'm a doctor and I believe, that with persistence, and the use of animals in experiments, we can find a cure. Surely it is the duty of science to try to save us from aids and cancer and other diseases. If they really must use animals then they died for us and need to be treated with respect while in our service. If they are going to die for that then lets be as humane as possible whilst admitting it is not a pleasant thing we are doing. I think that is a lot different to a company that sells cosmetics. If a cosmetics company cannot sell womens vanity paint without harming animals they should not be in business. Its a right to try to save the human race but not a right to kill animals so that some woman can get a man into bed by either wearing a fur coat or by wearing some absurd concoction of paint that first had to be poured into a chimpanzees eyes

Can you perform those same tests without causing death to other life forms? Science has no inherit duty or pass to kill just to justify it's methods to save a part of humankind.

Well if scientists say they have to use animals who am I to say different?
but I sure want a say about how the animals are kept and fed, and what conditions are like. I dont want to be advocating cruelty, but I do want them to use animals if that really is the only way.
Imagine if no-one knew it but they were only 1 month away from finding a complete cure for aids but they had to abandon research because of a ban?

You can also argue that what right do we have to stand by and let people die when we can find cures for hundreds of diseases. This debate is endless. I do know from working in an animal lab there are strict protocols and training that people have to go through to work with the animals and there are also regulations on how animals have to be treated especial animals that are used for medical testing.
