Have everything I need to get started except PH UP and and PH DOWN and now having trouble finding it in town. Is it the same as for for fish tanks or pools? Might be able to find that without ordering it and waiting. Thanks.
i heard its dangerous when these 2 are mixed, for example even as small as using the same measuring syringe for both p.h up and down. is this true?
Not really. If you went to an extreme you could get some fizzing or maybe even bubbling, but you would have to work at it.
You normally don't need PH-up, just down. I use PH-down for pools. It's very cheap and works fine, but it's highly concentrated. 1 tablespoon is enough for 10,000 litres of water, so you have to be very careful how much you use. What I do is premix 1 tablespoon in 10 litres of water, then I use 1cc (1/1,000th of a litre) of the premix for every litre of plant water.
I have been using General Hydroponics PH down. They have liquid and poweder form (that you can mix to any concentration). It is approved for food growing and works very well. It is sold anywhere on the internet...my fav ploace to shop for it is www.bghydro.com
