I make a few diff. kinds of chili.... have even put refried beans in it before and make white chicken chilli a lot.... but... anyways... in a half hour or so I think Im gonna go to the grocery store and get the stuff to make my favorite chili.... Chili Con Carne....

I put beef, garlic, green pepper, CELERY SALT, CELERY, onion, some canned tomatoes, some fresh tomatoes, tomato juice, brown sugar, chili powder, hot sauce, red pepper, oregano and sage in it.... I think it is soooo yummy.

Im starving right now. I think Im gonna triple the recipe to have plently to save.

When you make chili- what do you put in it?

I love chili. Now you're making me want to make some for dinner tonight! That's good though, because I wasn't sure what to make. Now I know! Good deal!

I like to make white chili with grilled chicken, cannellini beans, chili peppers, onions, garlic, cumin and corriander. I like to make chili with ground sirloin or grilled chicken, green bell peppers, red kidney beans, onions, garlic, tomatoes, jalapenos, cumin, chili powder, spicy vegetable juice, and tomato paste. I like to make vegetarian chili with everything in my red chili minus the meat/poultry, and add more kidney beans, plus mexican-corn.

    :( Now I'm craving chili
I've never made it, actually. My mom used to, but she stopped before I started cooking so I never really picked up the howto from her

Glad I could help you out with what to make hcm. :) Those all sound good also....

Omg... I made enough last night for three people to eat and have four large ice cream containers left over.... one that I put in the freezer. There will be chili here forever. :)

Ihmurria... You should try to make it.. its not hard at all. If you want me to pm you a recipe of mine (or three), let me know. :)

    Yesssssssh gimme gimme recipes!

I have to clean out our big pots before I can make any though. But I should, and I should freeze some too since I never seem to finish off the full pot of anything I make before it goes bad :S Our fridge really needs to be cleaned out. And the floor swept and mopped. And the carpet vacuumed. And my school shit organized. And our bottles taken to recycling, and the dishes finished, and I need to sort my laundry and put it away then tidy up my room at least a little

eugh, i hate the house when it gets this bad. Anyways, recipes are good!

Ugh, I hate it when stuff needs to be done... shitty thing is as soon as you get all that stuff done it all seems to need being done again. Anyways.....
Im gonna pm myself a note to pm them to you later on so I dont forget. Haha. :)

my veggie or meat chilli recipe: (although I do think this thread belongs in the Munchies forum, but oh well)

    - 1 diced onion
    - 1 diced each red, orange, yellow and green pepper
    - 1 cup corn
    - 1 cup shredded carrots
    - 1 cup peas
    - 3 cups tomato sauce, mixed with an entire head of crushed garlic, 1 pureed red pepper and about a cup or so of fresh basil
    - 1 can or so of mushrooms

for veggie version, have 2.5 cups bran or 2 cups hard tofu, crumbled, or for meat version 1 lb of lean ground meat

Fry onion in 1 tblsp oil (I like sesame oil) until transparent. If making meat version, add in meat now and cook. Toss in peppers, cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring. Add in all other veggies, mix well and cook 3-4 minutes. Mix in tomato sauce and cook 7-8 minutes to thicken it. If making the veggie version, add in bran or tofu now and mix well. Cook another 10 minutes. Serve alone or ontop a bed of rice.

Bran's obviously good for the fiber, but what's cool is that it gives the texture of meat. My meat-eating family didn't at all believe it wasn't ground meat.

This tastes better the next day, if ya can make it ahead of time. Also, a great way to make this spicy is to take the mashed up tofu and fry it first in a bit of sesame oil, a clove of crushed garlic, juice and pulp of one lime, some Tex Mex seasoning and jalapeno tobasco sauce to taste. Let it cool, then add to chilli.

Read this thread last night and have my pot of chilli on today. I usually just keep adding until the pot smells and tastes good.

I am looking forward to this for supper!

So thanks for the inspiration everyone :)

    I make it with
-ground beef (or sometimes no meat)
    -tomato paste
    -tomato sauce
    -canned diced tomatoes
    -green pepper
    -chopped onion
    -chili powder
    -garlic powder
    -ground cumin
    -kidney beans (from dried)
    -baked beans (from a can)
    -garbonzo beans (from dried)

The best part is serving it in homemade bread bowls...yummmmmmm

I find adding a touch of baking soda at the end of cooking the dried beans takes away the gas...;)

i prefer green chili. i make that with pinto beans, roasted green chili & onion (sauteed and rouxed), fresh garlic, chicken broth, ham hock, the standard spices plus some cilantro, lime pepper, parlsey. sometimes i make a meatless version with veggie stock for when we've a lot a veggie friends coming to the party.

when i make red chili it's pretty standard.

Made my Chilli and it looks wonderful. Have enough to freeze for 5 more meals at a later date.....yahoo!!

I almost called you ladies in on a cleanup crew though as I went for a shower and came back and the pot had erupted and I had red sauce all over the place.

I was clean but my kitchen took a little longer to do.

Cerridwen, could you maybe post how you did your bread bowls as that would be a bonus next time to serve it in. :)
