hi all I would like to venture to paris for a day, and I am wondering what is going to be the best/cheapest way to get there and back to central station. Would it be cheaper to buy our tickets at the station or prebuy them now? I went to raileurope.com and really didnt find the info I wanted. Thanks in advance!

I hate to tell you this, but Paris is in a European country by the name of France. You happen to be in the Dutch forum, in case you didn't realize that.

I've never made the trip you're looking to do, but I don't (don't quote me on this) think the prices are different if you prebuy.

That being said, if the prices are different, it will be cheaper to pre-buy. So you probably can't go wrong with a pre-buy.

I have made a day trip to Paris from A'dam before; it is a long day but doable. I would make your reservation in advance since a last-minute same-day trip looks business related and usually priced higher. If your hotel has a concierge I would email him/her and see if he/she would make the reservations for you. You can then go to the station upon your arrival to pay for the ticket. Be sure and get one of the bullet trains that make the trip in 4 hours; otherwise, you waste too much time on the train. On my last trip to Paris (in '03) I left A'dam at 7:00 am and left Paris at 7:00 pm, which gave me 8 hours in Paris and still back in A'dam in time to party for a few hours.

Was going to do this also, but 200 for return and 4 hours each way caused me to rethink and head to the nearest coffee shop.

Well we went to paris for the day. My best advice dont do it :p Most people we talked to were rude and unhelpful. To get a taxi in paris was next to impossible. and the cost was close to 200 €. Had I know known about 2 months earlier that we planned to go to paris for a day the tickets would be much cheaper around 65€ for round trip. The lady at Centraal station was awwesome...

In my opinion stay in Amsterdam :) I am already plannin on my next trip in june! I can hardly wait. Dang airfare is killin me now. Really want to see amsterdam in the summer, unfortuneatly it looks I am gonna play for that privledge :(
