Peace, please man Scott was called that by the media. yes he did. i have heard of hot tuna & joe & the Fish, & Tim Buckly sounds familliar. later the tired flower child p.s. i was up all night long. i was personaly attacked on teh suggestions forum by someone called Cronic ( sound ironic SHE is from My state! ) sounds liek a firend of my sisters that is not hip at all.
The Moody Blues are great, I've got a few of their albums. I love "On the Threshold of a Dream." Thunderclap Newton, are you sure you don't mean Thunderclap Newman? They only had one number one hit, which was "Something in the Air"? If it's the same band, then believe it or not my uncle was the bass player and he owns a gold record for that very song; although he took it out of the frame, played it and discovered that it's actually a recording of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." The only other group I've heard of is the Brotherhood of Man, didn't they do lots of covers and rip off Abba quite a bit?
ummm... I've heard of Leonard Cohen and country Joe & the fish. so you lose. Not that anyone else wins either.....
Yeah, moody blues & country joe are fairly well known... Here's a list. Sha Na Na Tim Hardin Arlo Guthrie Richie Havens Got that from my Woodstock box set that I "bought".
You've heard of them, but have you listened to them? I wanna say Thin Lizzy, yea people have heard of them, but most people have maybe heard 1 song by them, but they were such an awesome band.
I was practically brought up on Thin Lizzy. I remember trying to elarn to play guitar the first time, learning the melody to Whisky In The Jar...that's probably my least favourite Thin Lizzy song, though...their cover of Rosalie is good, and My Sarah is nice... As for the Moody Blues...during the 60s, they played a gig at a nightclub in my town. My mum was there and, according to her, Justin Hayward (the lead singer) winked at her. My sister and I like to take the mickey and say he probably had something in his eye
Here are some more obscure but good bands (Local, early 70's rock/psych from my area): The Damnation of Adam Blessing Glass Harp The James Gang
Tommy Lee Pressley and Changing Tymes The Derek Trucks Band John Hiatt Gordon Kennedy Scott Henderson Doug Jones
Yes, I have heard every single one of those band's music. Most of them aren't even very obscure, let alone worthy of listening to. Scott MacKenzie was the one-hit-wonder responsible for '(If you're going to) San Francisco.' Fraternity of Man (not Brotherhood of Man) was another San Francisco-based, Matthew Katz owned band that share the same label as Moby Grape. They did the song 'Don't Bogart Me' (better known as Don't Bogart that Joint). Thunderclap Newman was another one-hit-wonder. Five Man Electrical Band were one-hit-wonders with not a heck of a lot of substance. Zaeger and Evens did 'In the Year 2525'. I will admit that is the only song I've heard by them. I think everyone has heard of the Moody Blues, and has heard at least five of their songs.
Peace, i have heard of rickie Havens - in fact i have a couple of his songs. i have heard of Sha Na Na got a song by them and Guthrie sounds familiar! Tim Hardin i really haven heard of later the tired flower child
Yeah, I love Thin Lizzy too... I've spent entire days listening to them. If you want to check out some good obscure music, go to the blues section of a good record store. Buy some of the stuff by the "old timers" like Son House, Blind Willie McTell and hell, even Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf.. You'll hear the blueprint for what became most of the rock we listen too now. You'll also hear where a lot of our favorite bands got some of their best tunes.
actually "something in the air" by thundercap newman - i think McCartney from the Beatles played Bass on that song, or so i heard. name dropping bands doesnt mean much. Inside Looking Out, they were a local psychedelic band from Adelaide who put out a couple of singles in 1970... does that count?
Brotherhood of Man? they were a shitty commercial outfit put together for the eurovision song contest, if memory serves me well. Moody Blues were the best psychedelic british band (probably) but is it rock n'roll?
