I just heard 'Red' and want to explore this group...any other suggestions? I've read elsewhere that Lark's Tongue is good but that the band changed line ups a lot over the years so be careful about some albums...
I wouldn't consider King Crimson heavy metal, I think... You should definitely try Vrooom vrooom/Live in Mexico, because it gives you a broad range of their material, it's a high quality live sound, and though I'm not into them a lot, it's quite stunning to hear them play such complex music so flawlessly even on stage.
Your (fkn) kidding! Larks Tongue In Aspic played at the highest volume your speakers will take without blowing beats any thrash or anything pertaining to be heavy I've ever heard bar some early pink floyd.I was a huge slayer fan when I was young but some tracks beat all dont think prog - just fink guitar!
I heard most of the studios, I only ever liked Court of the Krimson King. Still love it actually, especially talk to the Wind.
said the straight man - to the late man - where have you been? the lyrics are really clever I think - cut to the chase.. and straight there to me refers to someone who is always there on time - infact its a great song to listen to when you miss work.or even fuck work! there is a new trend in the uk called duvet days - even companies are starting to accept that everyone is allowed at least 3 duvet days - not holidays - just days when you can't get out of bed
Good view on that! I always felt as if the song was speaking to me about someone who feels like they dont belong on the earth, like they're words fall on deaf ears all the time, and they feel like they have a very important message to give, but no one cares to hear it. Thats just been my perspective on the song, sometimes I feel that way and the song is very emotional to me. But my ex fiance had a very different idea, so I guess the song means a lot to a lot of different people, in a lot of different ways
Its the flutes though - they are beautiful - I do a cleaning job when I'm not 'in the limelight' or 'sharing' or whatever the fuck people call performing music these days, - I vacuum a music block in a college and somehow the flutes remind me of the relaxed whistle of a certain no-one vacuuming the vast carpets of a college where everyone else is trying to make it but knowing that some - will end up cleaners (obviously with the possibility of going on to become world famous!!!!).That sounds depressing but i grinned when i said that - I abore bitterness - creativity is the key
Starless and Bible Black. It opens with a couple tunes that were KC's attempt at radio airplay (actually this might be pop music on another planet), then ends with the brilliant "Fractured", probably the most brilliant piece of performace rock ever recorded. John Wetton and Bill Buford just kick the crap out of any other rhythm section and it's proven in this monsterous jam. It was recorded live, and you can hear someone yell "yea!" towards the end. It's really an amazing number.
In the Court of the Crimson King is definitely the place to start, Schizoid Man is one of the most energetic performances of all time and the ballads which make up the album are very cool with Greg Lake on vocals. From there, I'd get Red, Discipline, Lizard, Larks Tounges in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, THRAK and either Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With or The Construcktion of Light, somewhat in that order. Their lineup changed so much as well as their sound, so it'll really surprise you how different all their albums are. Larks Tounges in Aspic Parts 2 and 4 are pure intensity. And they're not heavy metal. Don't ever say that again.
What about ... In the wake of poseidon? I think that its a damn good album. Cadence and cascade is my fav. from this album.
That's a great album too, basically a mirror of In the Court, but still great. It didn't impress me but I enjoy listening to it, Pictures of a City is one of my favorite Crimson songs.
