soo. mahh dreadys are still little ones...only about 2/3 months old.. and they're looking finee. butttttt..
    i realllllly hate washing em.
1.) people say washing it really tightens 'em (which is true probablyy..) but it seems when i wash them--the next day they're realllly loose.
2.) it takes like 24 hours to dryy..
3.) they seem saggy and loose the next dayy

yeah. that's mainly it.. not really because i'm lazy.. but because i feel i'm making them looser.. i havn't washed (my hair) in a while and i just dont feel like makin them seem loose again.. i hate the feeling! so... i guess i'm kind of looking for a reason to wash it and maybe how to make it so it doesnt seem loose?
does anyone else get this? ehh.
    well thanks for the help!

I wash frequently.. I promise you.. you want to wash. Everytime your hair gets wet and dries it knotts a little more, loops are created and so on. That is a process I can see clearly for each time. And yes, the first day or so, the frizzes are all out again, but after some 3 days they lay down again. The reason for your hair to feel loose is that it isn't fully knotted yet, so you gotta go through this loosing-up process sooner or later anyway. i'd do it sooner. :)

    yeah washing ftw!

Think about it your hair needs space to move around and knot up. So wash wash wash wash wash. At first I hated it to, but once my hair actually started to knot up on its own, and not from the backcombing (which oldly enough all came undone it seems), it actually helps alot!

As for getting your hair dry, I wrap mine in a towel and watch TV. Gets it dry in about 30 minutes

You must not have a very oily scalp or something.

yeah how do you deal with the dirty, the itchies, and the smell?!

I have been washing like on a daily basis, and its great. My hair has never felt better. Luckily for me though, my hair takes all of like 30 minutes to dry.
    mmmmmmmmmmmmm clean hair!!!

My hair naturally gets oily after only a couple days of not washing. So I feel compelled to wash them every 2 days. However, a friend with dreads herself told me that if I let it go for a few more days, those oils will naturally go away. Then I read that oily hair inhibits dread growth, so I'm confused. I suppose everyone's hair is different so everyone has different needs as far as the frequency of washing.

Your hair/scalp is used to the washing, when you wash less, after a few weeks your hair/scalp will get used to that ;) (that's what happened to me)

I only wash my hair about once a week sometimes two weeks sometimes twice a week, I have no schedule, if I feel like washing my hair I do. (I have very very dry hair so it never gets oily that may be the difference for me) washing too often makes my hair brittle and it breaks, I still have to put some conditioning in my hair like once a month. do what ever feels best for your hair type is what I mean even if I was long winded about it.

yeah..about conditioners...lol. i use Dr. Bronner's tea tree soap for me dreads, but like, some of the tips seem real dry...like...i'm afraid some of the little hairs are gonna break dry. even after i wash....think it'd be cool to just condition the tips, or is there something else i could put in em to help em out?
    thanks!

When I gave a friend of mine my recipe for an ACV rinse (which is around here somewhere...) he told me he had the same prob with brittle hair, and added just a little bit of olive oil to the mixture to help condition. I haven't tried this myself, but he said it worked really well. Of course, the oil and vinegar separate, but he just shakes it up real well before applying the rinse. :)

Oh yeah, and I'd definitely stay away from regular conditioners. That stuff leave a nasty waxy residue that will build up over time - it might be okay for un-dreadied hair, but with dreads I definitely wouldn't trust it! [IMG]
