Hi, im new here. I just posted this same topic a minute ago, but their was some error. so my appolgize if this is a double post. I just graduated highschool and all my endevors seem to always fail, i've lost almost all of my friends over a recent fued, and the only girl i have yet love. My life has always seemed to be in the dregs from the very begining. And i've always felt that i was born into the wrong time, place, and planet. I feel increcingly alienated by my peers and supposed friends. I'm sick of the scociety I was born into, and sick of it's chains. I've been thinking about this for a while. My ideal life picture would be to live on some tiny out of the way carribian island with a population of less than a thousand. i could live in a shack and own no great possesions. Live, fish, play, smoke, be happy and free. all i want is to be free. I was wondering if some one could give me some infromation on communes around the country. I live in the central florida region. I know their is a group of like minded people here called the "Rainbow People" or some call them the "Rainbow Childeren". But from what i heard they are nomadic and not very oganized.
Uhh, damn. There's a small, entirely communistic village somewhere in the tropics that one of my teachers lived at for awhile. He told us about their lifestyle and showed us pictures of their living situation, and while they had very few possessions, they seemed like some of the happiest people in the world. Damn, I really wish I could remember the name...
my internet searches have been turning up next to nothing. because as i figured people that live in the communes don't have internet acess, or atlest they don't get on very often. even wikipedia is turning up next to nothing.
Yeah, people that live in shack houses on the outskirts of society generally don't have an internet connection... If I can ever remember the name of that village, I'll let ya know! You can always live on your own too. I calculated all the costs and it's entirely possible to live self-sufficiently and very comfortably for around 30 Grand.
I just found this awsome site while browsing the forums called www.ic.org it list comunities all over the country. theirs a shit load all around me that actualy meet my needs to the tee. but the thing is i have to make sure this is what i would realy like to do. because in january im starting school, and i can't just throw this away. and afterwords if i was to join a commune it would make my computer specialist degree useless, because i doubt any one in my comunity would be worried about their poor wireless signal or why their computer is angry at them. and thats going to be 2 years from now. i just gotta weigh my options. im gonna see about visting some of them soon and making a few calls in the morning.
Yeah, chances are you'll want to change your major once you see what it's all about. Most people do change their majors, so it's nothing that special. I thought I wanted to be a Computer Engineer, and after taking my classes and seeing what it was really about I came to the conclusion that I'd rather have my nipples bitten off by a radioactive mutant beaver than stick to that major. So, as soon as I transfer, I'm going to be an Environmental Engineering major!
Ahh, I finally remembered what country the village was in! It was Tonga, which is mostly a cluster of isles in the pacific.
have at a look at the kibbutz its based in palestine, stay at the more traditional left wing kibbutzes if you can, and not the ones that work you to death, or have some poisonous religious bent to them. i can recommend kibbutz Nahal Oz near the gaza strip. its a good way to live in another country without being ripped off by ther locals, be warned outside the walls of the kibbutz its the wild west, alot of con men wandering around, stay in the kibbutz. when you tire of sanity start looking around outside and you'll see what i mean.
some communal situations have LOTS of net access, and as wireless gets better, well, so will those connections. plus someone has to earn some outside cash, even if only on an associate's degree. winters can be long cold and lonely for some, and that outside input can keep you sane. communes can be urban, suburban and rural. the focus can be running a business (farm to B&B to school for the kids to whatever) similar worldviews, similar takes of what marriage can be, even band houses can be communal. Some are accidental and develop ways of managing its resources. think about a minor in something along with the computer degree.
Dude!!! Come live with me!! My mom's buying land!! (See my other posts in this forum) Hopefully sometime this summer...We're gonna need all the help we can get!
