Psychiatry-- The branch of medicine concerned with the study, treatment and prevention of disorders of the mind. Religion-- any specific system of belief and worship, often involving a code of ethics and a philosophy, ie.. the Christian religion, the Buddhist religion, the Hindu religion. There's no such thing as a religious schizophrenia. There are schizophrenics who believe in religion. Schizophrenia has positive and negative symptoms, the positive are hallucinations, delusions and racing thoughts. The negative are apathy, lack of emotion, poor or nonexistent social functioning and insomnia. I don't see how this fits as defined by the dictionary regarding religion. Bustramp
i feel that psychiatry/psychology and spirituality are heavily entertwined - the universe is mental and therefore subjective for the individual......it's hard for me to say that there's any "norm" that should be followed in living one's life, and it frustrates me when therapists try to pigeonhole their clients into their own modes of being, ways of living..... i have to applaud carl jung and his work - he delved into spirituality, and made it mesh with psychiatry in such a way that he was able to treat the total being, rather than dissecting spirit from mind, and dismissing visions and epiphanies as "chemical imbalances"
"They are great at critising and riduculing everything that remotely resembles a religion, but when you ask them what they actually believe they get all upset and start with the personal attacks..." Digging your own grave... Typical athiest trait. When they are asked to put their beliefs on the table they realise they can't because they don't have any. Naturally when faced with this void an agressive response is triggered inside in an attempt to deal with it. Then they resent others so try desperately to bring others down to their morbid gloomy level out of spite...You have to feel sorry for them. Unfortunately for humanity though its this resentment that has lead to Athiests such as Pol Pot and Stalin, two of the most evilest men in history, inflicting so much suffering on the world. This is also probably why most drug users and addicts are athiests.
Yeah, you know, when I read it again, it all seems a bit too convoluted to me too. The meaning was (and is) - No matter how aware and intelligent and wise and well educated you are, there is always some essential information and meaning about reality that exists outside of all that you know. This is true for every human. Leonardo DaVinci, for example, couldn't have known jack about sub-atomic physics, filmmaking, The U.S. Constitution or the Beatles. I guess it depends on what you know and what you believe. Both can be very good and both may be true, even when they seem to contradict one another. Why does it have to be either/or? Peace and Love
Ha ha ha this is proximo arisen from the banned outer reaches of doom isnt it? Hi proximo Think about it ! Praying to an all seeing invisible being - acting paranoid because otherwise the invisible thing will get them It has to be either or, because on of them is true renders the other false Either people are praying to something or they are not
