Who here has had the misfortune of living down here? Please tell me im not alone, i get the feeling that i am but...ya neva know.

Moved to Birmingham about 2 months ago. I live in the suburbs now, which I absolutely hate, but Five Points is pretty cool.

 

Im in bama, I like it. Its close to places that actually do something, atlanta new orleans florida, but you dont have to expect anything from where you actually are!

 

Another 'Bama resident here.

I'm lovin it. Especially since I no longer have to shovel the snow off my car at 5 in the morning before going to work.

no your not the only one luckily i got to grow up in eufaula,al. my house is inbetween two corn fields and my backyard is a forest that never ends. i grew up with animals all around and no power and got water from a well. i even had a pet deer that lived in my house, but now we moved out of the woods but still not in civilization. when i was younger i hated where i lived but now im glad i grew up here. im ready to move but once i do i will still like alabama.

 

Anyone else? I'm from Gardendale (about 10 minutes out of the Ham). I need to meet some hippies!

I grew up in county and . I've been all over the states and the world for the last years. I'm moving back in a month or so.I can't wait for the slow pase and CHEAP cost of living.

 

definately slow paced!! so, why the decision to come back??

i've lived in alabama most all my life - love it!.....if you're looking for a scene, just start one, lol!

 

I miss my friends and family. Every time I goback for a visit, I come across friends I havent seen for years and it's just like old times again. Also my house here in Virginia has exploded in value, which means the property taxes have too. It has turned into more than we can afford. With the equity we have in this house, we can buy a house outright in and still have plenty left over. The utilities here are outrageous as well. Owning a car here is a big hassle compared to Alabama. The traffic here is awful. There's a state motto (I think it's the motto anyway) "Virginia is for lovers" ... Maybe it should be "Virginia is for assholes" (There's an asshole overpopulation problem here)

but yeah, you're right, the cost of living here in 'bama is almost too good to be true - another reason to choose to stay right where i am
