This is unbelievable. This womyn has been harrassed and the town of is trying to fine her for a PEACE SIGN wreath. They homeowner's asso. says it is "offensive" to the people in the area who have "sons in Iraq." I'm offended by people who send their children to Iraq, does that mean that I can fine them for advertising it, talking about it, or hanging a "I have human cannon fodder in Iraq" star in their window?

In this undated photo provided by Lisa Jensen, a wreath is seen in Pagosa Springs, Colo. Pagosa ...

Woman Faces Fines for Wreath Peace Sign

By ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer

DENVER - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.

"Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up," he said in a telephone interview Sunday.

Lisa Jensen said she wasn't thinking of the war when she hung the wreath. She said, "Peace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing."

Jensen, a past association president, calculates the fines will cost her about $1,000, and doubts they will be able to make her pay. But she said she's not going to take it down until after Christmas.

"Now that it has come to this I feel I can't get bullied," she said. "What if they don't like my Santa Claus."

The association in this 200-home subdivision 270 miles southwest of Denver has sent a letter to her saying that residents were offended by the sign and the board "will not allow signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive."

The subdivision's rules say no signs, billboards or advertising are permitted without the consent of the architectural control committee.

Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members.

So would I. We have a tie dyed Peace Flag under our USA flag (symbolizign the way we would LOVE the US to be, with all it's inherent freedoms.) It is hung all year around. I can't imagine what they would do.

Dig the last sentence, where Kearns (the HOA president) fired ALL the other members of the HOA board who didn't agree with me.

I wonder if she made it, or if she bought it. I'd love to hang this on OUR front of our house. We have a nice place we hang Christmas wreaths this time of year. I would hang one of these, if I could find or make one.

Didn't think board members could be fired, there elected.
Boards have a lot of leeway to interpert these regs.

Kearns sounds like a nut job.

Pagosa is a weird place I have family that live there. It is not a friendly place for alternative lifestyle people it is mostly Republican ranchers and rich. I don't like going there.

That is stupid the peace is if anything the exact opposite of satanic and if they want her to take down the wreath then the people that support the troops should be told to take down their yellow ribbons and pro war stuff. Say whatever you like but that's my opinion take it for whatever it's worth.

let alone that PAgan does not mean satanic.
the last line in the Denver Post version was that Kearns thought a CND/ peace sign was pagan, there fore anti-christ, therefore satanic.
wonder what happens if you put a menorah in the window?
actually, I'd hang the wreath inside the main window where the HOA has no control.

I hear the tires squealing from the ACLU lawyers on their way there.
Sad, since the Colorado Assembly passed a law limiting what HOAs can do last session or two.

this is really pathetic.... whatever happened to "peace on earth, goodwill toward men?"

my, what sad times we live in.....

I also cannot believe that HOA's have such control....how UNamerican to have a group dictate what you can and cannot do to your home

A peace sign is satanic? Jesus was a peace loving guy we all know that.

But hey, who ever said Christmas had anything to do with Christ anymore...

Utter crap. Unbelievable man. Everyone knows that sign stands for peace and even if some people are offended by it because it originally was pagan, not christian, they should be tolerant enough to just ignore it.
Satanic, offensive for people who have kids in Irac? What a fucking nonsense, haha! I'd never believed a 'civilized' community would take these complaints serious.
