Im 18 a male and I disability... i walk with a limp and use an arm cane. Sometimes i get stares and what not and it kinda pisses me off when i see this really hot girl try to talk to her and she cant stop staring at the damn cane... Some people or sterotypical where they think just because i have a physical disability that it is also mental... this also pisses me off cause im a very smart guy... Some girls even talk down to me and sometimes i just feel like being an ass and that but i dont... It is also hard for me to get some girls because they think because of the cane thing that i cant have sex... so when i tell some girls about it i say its only the knees down.. i have a real problem with my knees and that... I just wish that girls would just stop staring and look beyond the disability and really get to know me as a person.
Man, I think you are acting overly self conscious. This might make me sound like an ass, but a few years ago, before I met my current girlfriend, I used walk with a cane and limp just too pick chicks up. And it wasn't pity success either, it seemed like a lot of the chicks went for the cane. Unless they found out I didn't need it, then they figured I was the biggest loser in the world. And as for them thinking you are dumb because of it? Come on man, I think again you are imagining it. When I did the cane thing, people said it made me look like an intellect. Man... it is a cane, I can't believe you even call it disabled. It's not like you are in a wheelchair and can only move one finger. (which would nearly describe one of the greater intellects of our time).
Wow. That's fuckin stupid... I wouldn't even have posted that if I were you. Infact I wouldn't tell anyone I ever did that. (I'm talking about Daryll) Anyways, can you just walk with a regular cane? I would, pimp canes own. If you can, do that. If not, then I don't know what to do because I've never been in the position where I had to meet new girls, I meet friends through both of us hanging out with other friends ya know. You could try that I guess...
Ok. This is going to somewhat harsh. I will give you that girls might be somewhat turned off or skeptical about the cane or limp. The fact is you have to play your attributes. I have gone out with guys that were ugly as hell because they made laugh til I almost pissed my pants. You have to start seeing your "disability" as no big deal and being you to the fullest. Truth is, like Seinfield said, 95% of the population is undateable. I have 4 kids, guys run from me like they are on fire. Luckily, I also have a rack that won't quit. I'm not comparing my situation to yours, I'm just saying that we all have hurdles. Some are bigger than others. And on a side note, if they are the type of person to dismiss you just based on the cane, they are not worth getting to know. Cause you have already seen that deep down, they don't what is truly important. For real
As a friend of mine once told me, "Women are bitches but men will be loyal till the end." BTW this came from a woman. Women can be so stereotypical i should know I do got a vagina lol (and no i didn't buy it). All my life i have been "the fat chick" and Ive had about every remark thrown at me. I have like one of the lowest self esteems known to man so don't worry your not alone on feeling insecure. Hell I can barely lie naked with my boyfriend after sex for cryin out loud. Now that's sad times. One day sooner or later (hopefully sooner) you will meet someone that will see past the cane and see your heart. My boyfriend is somewhat older then I and has a heart condition. For awhile he had to walk with a cane so as to help not strain his heart. But he somehow made it sexy. And I'm sure you can soon find that "Pimp daddy" inside you. Good luck. :H
I have a partial disability and I need to use a walking stick for mobility. Like you, it only affects my lower legs and the rest of me is fine. I notice some people stare, but it is not common. I have confidence in myself and I think this confidence shows. I am attached, so I am not looking to hook up with girls. Even so, walking stick or not, I find I can flirt and get the most promising responses. You know the ones. You look at a gorgeous girl and smile at her and she looks you in the eyes and smiles back, maybe runs her hands through her hair just to get the message across. So often it is like the walking stick isn't there. If have been disabled since my mid 20's. I was determined not to let my disability affect me more than it has too. I can only suggest that you try your utmost to exude that aura of self confidence that girls in particular pick up on. Girls are better than men when it comes to reading facial language and body expressions. Girls I have been with (I am an unfaithful man) comment that I seem taller and bigger than I am (167cm and only 58kg). They read my body language and see my confident posture as someone who is physically big as well as emotionally mature. If you find it hard to come to terms with your disability, and it took time for me to come to terms with mine, I suggest you do what I did and try some counselling sessions with a qualified psychologist.
