With all due respect, Columbo, that's an insane plan. We need to break down the current system and replace it with something better by rebuilding from the ground up. Social revolutions are good for that kind of thing, and Social revolution is what I've been advocating since I took up the freedomfight.
Our country (that's the U.S.A.) isn't even close to reaching the level where we'd need a social revolution to improve things. If even 50% of our country voted.. now that would be a good start.. When at least half our population votes and the government still screws us then we can talk big plans,.. but until then let's start with the basics.
It's unfortunate that so many people believe that with all the problems we face. People being forced to live in poverty, no opportunity for the lower class, a governmnt that wants nothing less than absolute totalitarian control over every individual in the nation, etc. I could list alot more, but I'll stop there. The main reason we have these problems is that nobody wants to do anything about them. But at least there are those of us who are actually on the ground putting up a good fight.
yeah really. If most people gave a damn we could do something about it.. We've got to be living in the most selfish nation on the planet. I've got a bit of a theory on why we seem to elect the most power hungry, greedy beings to our government.. could be that all the honest people have better ways to impact their community than sit in an office trying to get reelected :banghead:
People do give a damn, I think it's just most are so busy trying to live that they feel powerless to effect change. Give them hope that their voice is important and I think they will speak.
Think about the hippy movement in the sixties. It wasn't all about drugs. We were teenagers that couldn't vote, but could be drafted. Little by little our cries for peace and love gained the cover of Life and Time magazine. We felt empowered and the movement grew and gained new recruits with every day. People became more vocal. Big Business decided we were a market that couldn't be ignored. We questioned the status quo. We were no longer happy to follow the roadmaps laid out by our parents and their generation. We wanted to shape our own world. Somewhere along the way most of us lost track of that dream.
There are lots of ways to get involved and make change. Good change always starts small. Heck even if you just get involved in local politics and push for change that is a good start. I didn't realize this until recently. I got involved and door knocked and listedend to politions speek and asked hard questions the more people that do that the better. Because no one in politics starts at the top the begin small and thats where everyone can make a difference.
Well as much as i disagree with the beliefs of our fine? government i in no way feel that we should live without it it is are keystone to keeping the country together and yes i believe it to be completely FUCKED UP (sorry for choice of vocabulary) and the way its ran could use so much improvement but all of us need to realize that we have NO control over any one else in this universal circle of life and as long as we do what is right for others and ourself by just giving a valid effort to improve our life for the better of our beautiful mother earth means were taking a great step forward and wanting no gratification from this others will eventually see and just maybe take that step with us i agree with columbo dont hate it just improve it ONE PERSON AT A TIME and with patience and the beautiful circle of life it shall prevail and shine on as it always has, always is, and always will but only to those who know how to look, feel, and love freely and with openmindedness all my love and blessing Measa
I like what you said here so i'm just quoting it to show appreciation As for people giving a damn, I'm really starting to question it. Kids really don't seem to care at all about social or political issues (in general), and by kids I mean this new generation coming up that I happen to be a part of. Almost everyone seems to be far more interested in what ringtones they can get than anything happening that matters. I'm just hoping that most of us grow up. Howard Zinn would agree with you atriot: . You should read "You Can't Be Neutral On a Moving Train" if you haven't already. The big theme in the book is that small, seemingly insignificant movements and actions are what really change this world. I loveeee lovelovelovelove that book!
good thread columbo. there need to be some big improvements but it's a pretty damn good system Jefferson, Madison, and Washington, Jay and the rest of those guys set up. I love our system (Checks and Balances, People rule) we just use it to elect the wrong people. Thats all.
I wouldn't say that. Locally there are a lot of amazing people out there doing great and wonderful things.. just so happens that the scum have the national control. How many times has some beautiful person told you "No i'll never get into politics.. to evil and muk-raked"? Word.
