well therapy can help..with thre right therapist
also theres herbal treatments that may work better for you then the valliums and lythium
but if youyr on lythium you must have a clinical diagnosis?

is it worse at this time of year?
are there things that trigger it?

    lil back history?
    lil more info might help

I know the feeling, but it really only comes this time of year. There are things in my past triggering it. I hope you can find happiness, it's much easier said than done, but it's possible.

if it does u can get special light therapy lamps that may help quite a bit

Go talk to psychiatrist/psychologist. It sounds like unipolar depression, depending on how long it has lasted.

And don't take Valium or Lithium. Valium is a benzodiazepene for combatting anxiety, and lithium is a mood stabilizer for treating those who are bipolar.

If you are adverse to taking drugs, look into CBRT with a psychologist. Otherwise, look strongly in SSRIs or tricyclic drugs.

Forget anti depressants. They make you feel happy all the time even when you feel at your worst. it is a kind of happy pill. If you take anti depressents you may aswell pop an E. My advice, take a walk and do some reflecting. Write your feelings down. Don't worry they will flow from your pen. Talk it over with a psychologist who will be able to tap into your emotions.Get to the root of it all.

Life is cruel. It is a shithole and callous most of the time but there are also good sides to life. Sometimes you have to kick Earth in its nuts and overcome your depression. At the moment I am depressed because I may be unemployable at only 24 years of age. All my life, it has been drama, woes, tears for fears and heartache. Not only am I isolated isolated isolated, I don't know many people. I know only five people in this cruel world and fortunately they are nice people but you know. I live quite far from them.

It is pointless killing yourself. There aint an afterlife, you can be sure of that.

Are you really writing off anti-depressants to a kid with multiple suicide attempts under his belt because they'll make him feel happy all the time?

Because it sounds like an improvement to me.

wow- advising someone that is suicidal to stop their meds is not a smart thing to do !!! granted they might not be working the best and may need to be changed or adjusted but unless you're somekind of super shrink with ESP and can diagnose someone on-line without having ever met them, i'd lay off telling people to quit taking their meds. and btw, i take antidepressants. they don't make you feel happy when you're sad. i'm on disability because i'm bipolar. i wish they made a pill that "made" you feel great when things are shitty.

I'd have to disagree about the antidepressants making you feel happy.... it doesn't, it helps you cope, it can help overcome anxiety .... along with other types of therapy such as you describe in your post, they work very effectively.... given the right one of course.

And to give the world a kick in the ass, that's an excellent metaphor, but with medication it can lay a heavier lickin in that direction.

Anti depressents can be very addictive long term. I suggest only natural solutions. There are anti depressents which have a very mild dosage per pill. I still feel that taking any pill when you feel down is a bit risky.

I am depressed but have staved off of anti depressents. I am sure that with talking to parents or a psychologist, this person can regain confidence and hopefully see the light again. I don't condemn anti depressents, I just don't think they should just be taken for granted. There are risks and what works for some people may have disastrous affects on other people.

I need to add that I was unaware this person was taking any type of anti depressent. I thought he was thinking about it. If he was on anti depressents, I don't think he or she would have sounded so desperate.

As far as I am aware, anti depressents raise the level of the brain's natural endorphines, giving you that good feel factor and motivation back in your life. However I state again, take advice from a Doctor before going straight to anti depressents.

Okey, I was going to go down the same route. Anti depressents, but then my doctor asked me how I slept at night. I said I didn't sleep very well due to active mind, concerns and worries. Usually depression hits worse at night. I have not met one depressed person who has told me they have had a wonderful sleep. So anyway, my doctor prescribed me a trial run on sleeping tablets. Low dosage and all and once I started getting my sleep back, I started to feel better and started feeling a positive lift. Many sleeping aids are now non prescription whereas anti depressents are heavily prescription drugs.

Like i said, consult a doctor. They know, but before anyone rips my head off, I am depressed at the moment, so know what this guy or gal may be going through.

The most common class of anti-depressants, such as Prozac, are SSRIs... Which stop the brain from reabsorbing Seratonin.

Actually, SSRI's selectively inhibit the reuptake of seratonin. Hence the name Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Not SRI. If you're going to explain medication, at least get the specifics right of how it works.

How are anti-depressants addictive? I still don't get this. I was on them for 4 years. The only difficulty in coming off was the dizzyness and "shocks" from effexor. Prozac wasn't any problem to come off of at all. Believe me, the pills never made me happy.

    they stabalize your moods.

There are anti depressents that are less or not addictive. The ones you took were probably not addictive. Due to anti depressents increasing your endorphine level to make you feel happy, enthusiastic about life, once you are off them, your endorphine levels drop. Obviously you dont want to go down again./ Short term it is okey but long term not okey. Before I get an axe in the back, prozac is perhaps the safest drug you can use.
