Ok, I have been looking all over the place for a beginners scarf patter to knit. I routed through that whole knitting pattern central website and couldn't find a thing. I have only straight needles sizes 5, 6, 8, 12, 17 mm needles and a ton of baby white sparkle yearn I wanna use. I need an easy pattern that's going to make sense, lol THANKS!
Here's a pretty simple scarf pattern just off the top of my head. Hope that it helps you out Cast on 30 stitches (you can make this number larger or smaller depending upon your yarn and needle size). *Knit 1 row even, turn* Repeat ** 4 more times. On next row knit 3 stitches, purl to last 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches, turn. Knit even, turn. Repeat last two rows until you've reaches the desired length for your scarf. Knit 5 rows even. Bind off. Now you can add fringe on the ends if you like.
awww, thanks so much! That helps a lot! this is funny, I actually feel like an "imposter" when I'm knitting. I have no idea what I'm doing except for my learn to knit book. I am so used to crocheting everything, lol
I know what you mean! It took me quite a while to get used to knitting. I found it WAY harder than crocheting for the longest time (I'm knit left handed and all the knitters I know are right handed) but one day it just kind of "clicked." I can't wait to see your scarf
you can even make the whole scarf in stockinette stitch.... cast on enough stitches to make the scarf approx 4-5 inches (check the tension, it'll give you a number to make a 4" square, so cast on that many stitches) and just knit every row. That's the absolute easiest. but knittin.chick's pattern is also quite nice, it'll give you a boarder. Otherwise, if you want to have a bit more fun with it and practice your knit and purl stitches, then: Cast on 25 stitches. Row 1: knit 5, purl 5, knit 5, purl 5, knit 5. Row 2: purl the knit stitches, knit the purled stitches, in other words: purl 5, knit 5, purl 5, knit 5, purl 5. Repeat row 1 for row 3, row 2 for row 4, and row 1 again for row 5. You have your first row of checkerboards. Do this in reverse for the second row of checkerboards, repeat for the whole lenth of scarf.
