bob is dah rasta man... he appeared in the body of black and white genetics but his cultural identity is clearly within the black community as that is what he himself closely identified with in his upbringing and iconagraphy of his musical expression but he transcended all boundaries in his being the pure expression of the Light of Jah
it is whatever you declare reality to be...bob can be no more to you than what is the highest image of yourself to be... one love, one heart
So....back to....why does it matter what "color" any indivudual sees him as? And....Bob was just a mortal man, remember...it seems to me you are elevating him to a higher status than need be. -I mean, no doubt he was a talented man who shaped music and touched many a weary soul...but a twilight zebra? I dunno...whatev's, I s'pose. It almost sounds to me like you are likening him to Jesus. (not that I care too much about that, just an observation.)
PS Suggested reading: 'On Racial Frontiers' by Gregory Stephens, Cambridge University Press. This has a whole section on Bob Marley
i see bob marley as a person, a musician, a revolutionary colors don't matter what matters is what's in someone's heart and in their mind. that's what makes them who they are. "one day we will all live together, black, white, chinese, everyone" Bob Marley
Coffee coloured I'd say - and I'd have to agree with Molly that Bob was deeply rooted in black rastafarian culture...but his music has a significance way beyond that.
Am I the only one that noticed that calling someone a "zebra" to describe someones race seems really rude? And what does it matter what color he is anyway.. I doubt ppl sit there listening to bob marleys music thinking.."hmm is this guy more black or white..?"
