    I have heard that a few people who live on their own often talk to themselves after awhile. Though some people say it is a sign of madness but was wondering what other peoples views were?

    it's been said by many counselors and therapists that talking to oneself, even to the point of carrying on a conversation, is a more sane thing than keeping everything bottled up inside

    by speaking aloud, even if it's only to yourself, gives a person an objectivity about the matter that they might not have otherwise

    ^^ yeah... why does everyone seem to think it's like a major issue? I also talk to dead people and to my friends when they're not there, but I don't even think that's particularly strange.

    I talk to myself all the time inside my head. Having a conversation out loud, I do also, but I make sure there isn't anyone around. :tongue:

    I talk to myself a lot. It drives my friends up the wall and I think may embarass them at times, especially while clothes shopping because this is when I do it the most and loud enough for others to notice. I talk a lot while scrutinizing the clothes and myself in the clothes.

    let's stand next to each other so it looks like we're having a conversation. This way we'll appear normal d;

    I don't remember doing it so much when I was around people, but I've been extremely isolated for a couple years, and I have very long, in depth conversations with myself all the time. Maybe I just need to hear a voice, even if it's mine. And yeah, sometimes I do get into arguments, but I work it out, usually.
    The thing is, because I've been such a recluse for so long, some strange mannerisms and habits that I already had have blossomed and become prominent characteristics, which really freak people out when I do go into public. Needless to say, this makes things a little awkward, and I keep noticing how differently I act and react to things from other people. It's like there are entire social codes I don't even know about, and that I never learned before, because as a kid and teenager, I was very mentally ill and never reallylearned to interact with people properly. Apparently I can be way too technical and I ramble like a madman, and very slowly too, but hermits have no need for speed! It only leads to stress and tears.

    I am living alone and catch myself talking to myself these days. I feel a bit crazy as a coconut sometimes.I think it has its downsides. It becomes a habit and sometimes you think you are going to continue that conversation once you are outside suddenly.

    I talk to myself quite often. Esspecially so if I am doing something that is taxing on my brain. It just helps to keep the thoughts flowing.

    I bet just about everybody does. The problem comes when you are having a conversation with the voice that nobody else can hear....

    I talk to myself, the computer, most inanimate objects, although rarely telephone poles, and yes I even argure with myself taking up both sides of some issue in order to determine which has more validity, hell when I was a kid I used to play chesss with myself.
    Why are you worried about sanity in this society, all being sane would do for youi, IMO is make you highly suspect , as the only sane response to an insane world, is insanity.
    Both the points you make Pscyhadelic Goddess have sufficiant validity to be made as assertions with "true" scientific authority. I'd offer for your consideration however that you try to be very careful with that word "objectivity" total objectivity is an impossibliity, (and I don't buy into 'impossible" easily at all). There is also this., in order to speak out loud, at least one more "brain center" is called upon to make this happen, this has the effect of raising the overall energy output of the mind/brain and therefore gives more force to whatever it is we are saying.
    On ancient maps there is a common warning usually associated with unchartered territory i.e, BEWARE for here there be DRAGONS!!! "Tis a very appropriate warning to issue here as well for, who we are next is a direct result of what we think now. Perhaps the most grevious thing one can do to oneself is engage in negative self talk, whether it is merely thought or worse spoken, Please brothers and sisters be careful with the words that you apply to yourself. Make no mistake about it, words are major magik, there is very good support for the argument that language is the actual constructor of consciousness. Each individual human being is a manifestation of high wonder, in my opinion, and deserves to be accorded respect, that includes oneself. Be kind to yourself, it's good practice for interacting with the next "wonder of the universe" you interact with.
    (Well? What do you think? I think it is a good time to practice restraint in the length of your posts. hmmmmm.... yep I agree say goodbye Kev. "Goodbye Kev" No man to them. Oh, oh yea, okay brb. hey! your not going anywhere, the astral planes in the hanger. Wise ass. {snicker})

    Fare thee all everwell, wheresoever thee may fare.
