What are your nominations for best new bands?

    I have two:

    1. Santa Dog - Superb summery pop from from this Bristolian power pop group, their new EP Belle De Jour. Imagine Debbie Harry vs Buzzcocks.

    2. National Heroes - Their myspace site has been getting heavy attention in the past few weeks because they put their new EP up for free download to anyone who wants it. Their live dates have caused a real stir and they're very quickly building a very impressive reputation for their "anything goes" gigs.

Who do you nominate? let's discover some real new talent.

    Texas Faggot

    Kox Box

My Morning Jacket( are they unknown?)

    Keren Ann ~ Nolita

    Brazillian Girls

Combustible Edision... has been largely ignored.

It's hard to say what's unknown if you don't know what other people know to begin with!

there's like a ba-zillion 'unknown' bedroom electronic 'bands' though...

I came across these guys (not sure if they are a band of just a solo artist?) at The Glitz last week when I went to see my mate DJ. Never seem anyone abuse a piano like the little lady on stage that night. Couldn't take my eyes off her hands the whole time! Reminded me of Tori Amos quite a bit - a total nutter but very talented. Kat Vipers - check them out!

If you mention any bands it means someone has heard of them.

    Dummies.

    Well, anyway...

Buchenwald Oven - very decent though very explicitly nazi black metal. They're not too new but no one knows them. They only issued one demo, limited to under 100 copies (probably 88), and have since split up. They are probably the least known band I listen to.

    - Dead Man, myspace: http://www.myspace.com/deadmansweden
They released their first album this year, mix of rock and folk and sometimes
slightly psychedelic. Try the song Highway on their myspacesite, I think it's
    great. :)

    - Witchcraft, myspace: http://www.myspace.com/witchcraftswe
Excellent rock, blows me away. They're around for a few years but most
    people never heard of it.

    - Smoke In Sunshine, unofficial myspace: http://www.myspace.com/smokeinsunshine

Well, I ran into this band and couldn't find anything recent news about
them. I really like their album Epic voyage from 1999, so they're not really
new, but not old neither. Typical stoner stuff, but I like it very much.

"Pray to Robots" - is one of the more interesting new bands that I have heard recently. Not even sure what kind of music it is. Its like some mix of improvised spontanious music with all kinds of influences mixed in. I think they just came out with their first cd, recently. Their website is - http://www.earthless.com/praytotherobots/

Another band that I recently heard is "Magic Pinecone Band", thought not as new. They are darker/spacey psychedelic/sorta improvised rock. Not like most jam-type bands that are all happy and light. Probably good if you are high. There is an unofficial myspace page for them - http://www.myspace.com/grandpasmagicpinecone

Brazilian Girls are great, I saw them in NYC a few months ago. I think I even heard that song Lazy Lover on the new Axe Deodorant commercial

Six Organs of Admittance. Check out their myspace page or something... I suggest the song Black Wall. Very psychedelic...

I'm pretty sure they're not too new... but they aren't too popular either. I think they're out of San Francisco...

The Shins are really good, although they're probably known since their exposure from Garden State.
