Personally, I don't care what a person's faith is as long as it is not a major influence in public policy (government folks) or being pushed on me (the rest/ gov't folks).
    discuss:
is it time for Muslims to have a place at the American table?

(why) Do we still question AMERICAN loyalty to the concepts of the Constitution baded on a religion that centers outside of the US? (Kennedy)

A rather optimistic view in light of the fact that none of the muslims I know are able to separate their politics from their religion - their religion dictates their politics and "god" informs the very core of their decision making ! that is a fact I have encountered and none of the many Uk muslims I know would dispute it !

Tough question since the christian faith is also centred outside the USA
BUT - I believe it is because other faiths do not seek to supplant secular law with such ideas as shariah law and are willing to accept the dictates of secular society. In Nigeria a candidate for presidency is running who I know is muslim and accepts secularism in public but privately backs the idea of shariah law

Am i ready for a muslim rep?

I don't care either way, chances are he'll be just as corrupt as a xtian, jewish, or atheist rep.

Is America ready for a muslim rep?

    HA! Not even close....

not the son of god, and more to the point, they like the idea of shariah law which would disrespect the right of the peoples representatives as stated in the constitution
and that, your honour, is the case for the prosecution !
    LOL LOL

I don't vote based on a candidates religious persuasion.

    And i don't vote, period.

I doubt many people here really care whether a rep is of one religion or another...

I do ! I wouldnt vote for anyone who says god exists !
I may vote for one who said they didnt know
and would definitely vote for an atheist
If they all fudge the issue - I dont vote that day
dependent on a few other policies as well !
I'm not into personality politics I vote on the issues such as religion
fair pay - what party they are - and mainly what are they talking about to improve things

    that makes no sense.

You would vote for some simply because they admit being an atheist? Regardless of anything else on their platform?

How is that different from the way right-wing fundies vote?

    so predictable of you!
no of course not - If I dont like their other policies I dont vote
but make an aggregate of the policies I favour amongst atheist candidate
but purely only those with a leftwing bias
    I support leftwing atheists

Contrary or maybe not to Columbo's viewpoint I operate on don't ask don't tell. I would never ask a candidate what their political persuasion was, but if they volunteer it and it is something I know is going to cause problems...have to admit it would probably influence my vote. So right wingers if you want my vote keep your "god damn" religion to yourself.

Religion's place is in the home shared with the family unit not forced on society at large. If it gives you peace fine, but don't force your standards on me or my family.

Thats true but I just ask them straight out like " hmmm, didnt I see you in church last week"? and if they say "you may have done " or similar then thats it I just close the door without saying anything else. Thing is I actually got a guy once standing at the door and he had the balls to tell me that he doesnt follow a religion so I said "right well you can put me down as a definite voter for you".
HA HA HA As I was writing that I thought - just for a laugh shall I add
"yeah poor bloke - I heard later that a christian a couple of doors away shot him!!
