I just want to say I'm PUMPED for thanksgiving. It will be my first year that I am cooking my OWN thanksgiving meal, for my fiancee and I, and making it totally vegan....oh, and yummy too! I can't wait. I just had to share my excitement.
I am making vegan versions of: mashed potatoes, candied yams/sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, and a 7-layer salad. I'm having a Tofurky, but my fiancee is making his own bird, because he eats meat. He doesn't mind the rest of the meal being vegan at all though. So it should be fun, and rather interesting being that I have never prepared anything half this elaborate before...
Oooh, sounds WONDERFUL! Might I ask what goes into your 7-layer salad? The only one I've ever heard of has mayonnaise, bacon & cheese in it love, mom
fiancee is feminine. i was wondering if u were talking about a girl but apparently not. it must be a feat to make a big meal out of only vegan food. i mean, i always hear of humongous thanksgiving meals mostly consisting of meat and animal products of all kind
awesome! Tofurky is soooooo good, just make sure you follow the directions. You can't baste it enough, the more gravy & basting liquid (w/ lots of spices of course) you use, the better. Hopefully your fiance will at least give it a try!
Last year, we made a stuffing, salad, an apple pie and tofurkey. It's not too difficult to make an all vegan feast. It's just as difficult, well probably less than making a non veg feast. But, it is difficult. In my huge family, most of the the holiday foods I loved best, either should've been vegan like cabbage, or can be easily converted, like stuffing. Salad, greens, some other veg, stuffing, bread, rice or some other grain, soup, sweet potatoes or squash are good dishes, and a dessert or something of the like.
thank's giving is great. me and some friends are all getting together to celebrate. it's not going to be totally vegetarian, i'm certainly going to provide great vegetarian options...
I ordered a vegan pumpkin pie from my workplace...I can't wait to try it! My partner and I are both veggies, so we also bought a tofurkey dinner. This will be a pretty great Thanksgiving, I think.
I always go up to Maine to visit my grandma, uncle +family, and cousins for Thanksgiving, and since my grandma's had a few surgeries, she doesn't feel up to cooking a whole Thanksgiving feast. So we go to this wonderful buffet a few towns over, and it's totally fine. There's always veggies without meat flavorings, so it's cool. And during the week my family spends up there, my grandma likes to get creative with "veganizing" things, like meatloaf (omg, greatest thing EVER.). Are Tofurkeys good? I've never seen one... only tried the deli slices.
Dan the Baker rocks my socks! Oh to the poster above this post: I think tofurkeys are pretty good...I've always liked them...
I wish I could have an all vegan Thanksgiving...what a treat But...I'm having it with my family...who hunt/fish/eat all the meat they can. I'm the only vegan and there's a few vegetarians. But...I like my family so it doesn't bother me much. I am making a vegan dish though and I'll see how they all like it. Still can't wait for my own cooked Thanksgiving
Well, last year my friends invited me over for Thanksgiving, and I ate everything except the turkey, so I had plenty to eat. My friend's fiancee is such a good cook, I told him he should marry her for her cooking, even if not for any other reason...
My ex-girlfriend just put me up on the Tofurky, and I am giving it some thought. I'm mostly just curious, but it would be cool to find an alternative to the bird.
Tofurky is delicious - it tastes almost exactly like what I remember turkey tasting like. If you make a baste with olive oil, soy sauce, sage, oregano, thyme, basil, and any other spices you like, and baste it a lot while it's cooking, it's delicious. Mmmm... can't wait to cook mine tomorrow. Give it a try!
My tofurkey is in the oven right now !! LOL it smells awesome I cant wait till I try it !! Some of my family is interested in trying it soo I really hope they like it ! Its crazy Ive been a veg for 4 years and I never had tofurkey so I am really excited I finally have my own thing this year. I hope you all enjoy your thanksgiving !!! Stuff your face with tofurkey and other goodies !!! and enjoy yourself and your loved ones!! <3
Our 'Furkey is in the oven roasting with potato chunks, onion wedges, fat white mushrooms and baby carrots. Soaking up an apple cider/sage marinade. Also in the works is a pumpkin pudding (basically pie without crust). And cooling is a mince pie. Woo-hoo!
