Right, so, the gene of homsexuality is something that has "accumulated" over time in human beings and other animals alike, no?

What do you guys think is the orgion? Do you think it is love that can evolve into different things and have different meanings over time, all stemming from the primal instict of reproduction?

Or do you think it's more of a environmental thing?

Hmmmm...well I do believe love in general isn't a primal, basic emotion, but one that stems from the animalistic feeling of lust, which I think were originally not based so exclusively on one gender but on anyone human (hell, maybe not even that...)

So as relationships and love emerged...so did gay people?

    Wow I don't think I even really answered the question....oh well....

I have given so much thought to the subject due to the amazing number of gay people in my family...and though I belive there is a gentic link...I keep wondering if it isnt that Gays are able to dissolve that line where others say love should stop ?
Hetro men will LOVE a female..and use a bllod line to LOVE another male..but allaow that so called line to stop them from LOVING another male.....Gays appeare to be blind to it , and are able to love everyone. WE are the more fortunate...we will know love as it was meant to be...unfettered , and at its purest , not ruled by mans so called laws.

It's not uncommon in nature for adults with no procreational role to appear. You get it with foxes especially. No-one knows exactly why this happens. This generally happens when a population has reached a healthy sustainable number, as a form of growth control.

I'd say 6 billion is a fairly healthy population.

i agree with you totally. i have one sibling and she is a lesbian. my father's brother was gay (but considering the era that he grew up in, "bisexual" if we must apply labels) i do believe homosexuality has a genetic link.

i think because so many gay people do not find comfort with their biological families, we create our own families. in my case, i know that the above is true. my friends are true my family. these are the people that i will spend thanksgiving and xmas with. everyone wants to be where they are loved without conditions. in our community, usually you only find that with friends.

erzebet, you are so fortunate your partner is so cool, your kids are so cool. the acceptance your have is so rare. you are the lucky one and you deserve it. because you totally are a loving and unique individual.

I don't think that "homosexuality" is something that has evolved, it has always been here, it just depends on whether society is willing to accept it or not. For instance, in ancient Greece, Sparta (a great military power) encouraged homosexuality among the troops. The Spartans believed it was a healthy expression of love and that if you were fighting to protect your lover, you would fight harder.

This does seem a lot more likely. It's difficult to be sure, but I've got no reason to believe that there is a higher percentage of homosexuals (in psychosexual terms, not as in "out" homos) now than there was 1000 years ago.

There's certainly times when homosexuality is at least acceptable enough to be alluded to in literature. The Cantebury Tales, written by Geoffery Chaucer in the late 14th Century, features an overtly gay member of the clergy.

This might be because the world is more populated now then 1000 years ago. It would be interesting to know the percentages.

Um... well, maybe, but I was arguing that there probably weren't more. Obviously you can't get stats though; even if censi had taken that kind of data, there could be even less guarantee then than there is now that people would tell the truth about it, probably.

I have no gay relatives - as far as I know!

I've read studies that homosexuality was thrown into the human population as sort of a default mechanism to control it, since two people of the same gender cannot pro-create naturally. If that's true, it doesn't seem to be working.
