Has anyone had any luck with the patch? I am finally going to quit...starting today I guess. I smoked my last one this morning and I am not going to buy anymore. I dont really want to.....well I do, but I am scared this will just be another "attempt". I have never before used any substitutes, but so far the "cold turkey" thing just isnt working for me. So I am trying the patch and I was wondering if I might have any hope with this. If you havent used the patch, then how have you been sucessful at quitting? Wish me luck :)

Well, I had the patch on for all of mabye an hour and it made me really really sick. I dont know what to do.....uh, I need to use it.....but I dont want to be so sick and I just couldnt bear to keep it on longer to figure out if the sickness will go away. The little booklet said it could cause sickness and dizzyness but does it go away with time? help:(

the patch is how i quit. get the one with the lowest amount of nicotine and cut it in half. see if that works. good luck to you.

I'm a LOT older than you and I used both the patch and the gum to help me quit (after 2packs/day for better than 25 years, my doctor felt I could handle the patch and gum together.) If the patch bugs you, you might try the 2mg gum (it also comes in 4mg). If you just smoke once and a while, the gum might be better for you - just don't use it and drink at the same time, it needs to be the only thing in your mouth.

Thanks. Yeah, I cut the patch into smaller peices and I am using it that way and so far it seems to work out a little better. I already spend $35 on these stupid things so I am going to try to get through using them all, but when I run out, if I still feel like smoking I am definatley going to get the gum....it sounds like it would be better.

When I quit smoking 5 years ago, what worked best for me was the gum and tons of carrots...

I've never used the patch or anything like that, but I've attempted to quit several times. Lately, I don't smoke that much... maybe a couple times a week. I dunno, once you put your mind to it, it's not so hard to give up. (Although you may gain some weight) I know I've gained a few pounds, which I am trying to lose right now. Sometimes when I crave I will just grab a pen and start to write a poem or something. It seems to help. Just remember, your craving will pass in a few minutes whether you smoke or not. Peace and GOOD LUCK!!!

I had quit smoking when I was pregnant with my 15 1/2 yr old. Quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant. But 3 yrs ago, life get to be to stressful and I started smoking again. My kids had a fit and gave me hell. There are days where I don't have any cigarettes and other days when I'll smoke a pack a day. I was given some nicotine gum to try.....YUKKY and too expensive!

I went cold turkey, but I did have a little help iin the from of two yanked teeth, it's hard to drag a cig when you've got holes in your jaw.

    Still a pothead though.

Have you tried wholefoods?I switched in July 2003.Out went the soy milk and margarine.I don't drink milk but for cooking I use a normal fat, lactose reduced milk. The generic brand butter is actually cheaper than some margarines.Today I was getting a bit cranky - a bit like the bad old days. Then I realised the problem.I had not my fix of fat for the day.It was lunch time, but I had to have bacon and yellow split peas. There is some science behind what I am saying.Have a look at the link below,

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1347593&dopt=Abstract

What I would suggest is to eat butter in a big way for a least 3 months before going cold turkey. The other thing is to smoke rollies instead of factory made fags. I smoked those for a few years and did not like the the ready made ones.

All the nonsence that you hear about cholesterol is corporate propaganda from margarine companies.

Another thing .On the old hip forums I put up a survey of ex smokers .There were far more butter eaters than margarine eaters.
