Driving barefoot. Is there any greater pleasure? Well ... maybe, but few things are as exhilarating as taking off my shoes for the drive home after a long day. And by take off, of course I mean leave on. does someone like drive barefoot?
I too love to drive barefoot, in fact it might actually be safer! I'm usually in flip flops and proceed to remove them whenever I get behind the wheel. Doing this will prevent one of them falling off and getting stuck underneath the pedals that might lead to the inability to brake at a safe distance! For that matter, I think everyone should remove their flip flops before driving. Also I love sticking my left foot out the window and letting the breeze run between my toes while going down the highway.
Might be safer? Of course it's safer. How could driving barefoot be anything but much safer than having some cumbersome footwear on your feet? Wearing shoes on your feet to drive makes about as much sense as wearing mittens on your hands to drive. A barefoot person has much greater control over the car pedals because he or she can feel them better. Shoes or other footwear not only cut off that essential tactile sensation, they can slip off pedals or get hung up between pedals, potentially causing an accident. And I can't think of anything more dangerous than trying to manipulate car pedals with something like flip-flops on. If it were somehow possible to test, using scientific methods, the ability to control the foot pedals of a motor vehicle using one group of barefooted people against another group of shod people, I firmly believe there would be a significant difference seen. I believe the barefooted group would have greater control, and thereby able to operate a vehicle safer than the shod group. If there ever were any laws related to footwear and driving (which there aren't), it makes a lot more sense to make driving with footwear illegal. Driving with bare feet is the safest way to drive, and I would never compromise my safety or risk my life or the lives of anyone riding with me by driving any other way.
well yeah its like snowy here and i still drive barefoot actually only reason i wear flipflops is cause the snow is realy cold after a few min of walking in it and i don't want to get frostbite but driving with shoes on you cant even feel the heater how are you suposed to warm up your feet stuck in shoes? And with shoes on with snow or, even just water, your feet do/would slide around alot, No problem barefoot never slip no mater what not to mention much better feeling on the clutch for shifting geers ^^
last i had a car i wouldn't ever drive with shoes on. i'd take off my work shoes before even starting up the car.
i only drive barefoot. when i wear shoes i have a hard time judging how much pressure im puttingon the gas/brake.
Driving barefoot is the only way to drive. I have been driving barefoot for many years now (more than 10 years) and as a few of you have mentioned, feeling the pedals under your feet makes it safer to drive. When on the rare occasion of driving with footware, I find it awkward and difficult. Also when you have to stop for petrol, its great to get down on the petrol station barefoot and fill up the car or even having to pump up the tyres, kneeling down and showing your dirty soles. Keep em dirty Mo
I'm quite used to kickstart and drive my old bike in bare feet during summer. Sometimes I enjoy a barefooot ride in winter too, if its not too chilly. One tip: large 4stroke engines are less tricky to kickstart with the bare sole than small 2stroke ones. they kick like hell, one time a 125cc gave me a tremendous blow, like being struck on the sole with a club ... I was lucky I was wearing boots, and still it hurt.
Barefoot all the way, driving. Even if I wear flops, they come off the instant I'm in the seat. I actually do most of my driving with my toes! Only time I wear anything on my feet driving is in the dead of winter, at least until the floor warms up. As I've posted before, extreme cold can be deadly dangerous, at least for parts of the year. Lately that means only 2-3 months here in Maine, because of climate change, like it or not. Things are different now.
They are the weird ones, not you hun! Yes you can get your feet pretty black at petrol stations! Nice! Keep em dirty Mo
I agree with Tech Mo. And I see this type of comment a lot, that is, talking about people looking at you weird because you are barefoot. I think even thinking about that is a sign of self-consciousness. So, how do you know they are looking at you weird? Why are you even paying attention to what everyone else is looking at? You might get a glance or two and maybe a double-take, but so what? Let's face it, being barefoot is unusual. Even if I saw another barefoot person, I'd probably stare! First, accept the fact that people may give you a second look or stare just a little. It's really no big deal. Just walk into a place barefoot and don't even think about your feet. Never look down toward your feet, but instead look at people in the eye and greet them in a friendly way. Act like you are doing nothing wrong whatsoever - because you aren't - and most people will pick up on that positive attitude and treat you with the respect you deserve.
yeah. i said they look at me weird. but did i say that i give a fuck? i was meerly agreeing with what the person above me had said. i infact have no embarrasment for going barefoot, i was just stating a fact. self-concious? way to judge me.
Hey, nobody's judging you. I was talking in general terms - go back and read my post again. Just because I may have quoted something you said, doesn't mean my comments are directed specifically towards you personally. I do see similar comments a lot, and I do think it reflects self-consciousness about being barefoot, that is, to even notice it or be concerned about it. And that's pretty normal for someone new at it. I was that way for a long time. It's one big reason why a lot of people are afraid to go barefoot in public - they think people are going to be staring at them or looking at them in a weird way. But if that doesn't include you, that's cool, and no need to get all defensive about it.
Not a problem. Sure didn't mean to come across like that. I've been at this a long time (going barefoot in public), so think I've probably experienced just about every situation or reaction to being barefoot there could be. I still get surprised once in a while though.
