Haw. Oh shit... Steve Miller always comes on when I'm driving in the evenings. Every day. This leads to it being stuck in my head often.
Do The Ballad of Ira Hayes next time! Call him drunken Ira Hayes He won't answer anymore Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian Nor the Marine that went to war
Deep Elem? That was the crazy music-art-awesome district of Dallas. Or, more precisely, Deep Ellum. Oh...What was that one club called...The Gypsy Tea Room, mayhaps? Anyways, they actually painted portraits each week of the bands that would be playing that weekend. Once, they had The Distillers plastered all up on that brick, and I was in love.
Deep Ellum is sounding it's last death knell. The Good Latimer bridges are being torn down to make way for a DART station. Trees shut down. Over half the clubs are hip-hop clubs that don't bother with live music. Gypsy is all that's left and there have been rumors for quite some time that it's going bankrupt. The cop presence on weekends is so oppressive that they have gang-control units in big vans trolling the streets. I was down there playing guitar on elm street one time and the 2 AM just out of the bar crowd got maced and fired on with paintballs from 16 feet away. The cops just stood there and sprayed the whole fucking crowd. It was ridiculous. sad days for the Dallas music scene. which was never much to begin with.
WHAT? Latimer's going down? What the hell? I thought there already was a Dart station running through that area...Holy shit. Trees SHUT DOWN?? The world is ending.
You know what... I had a dream about this last night. It was quite lucid. Anyway, I walked around the entire area of Ellum, in Dallas. I've never been to Ellum. The only area near Dallas I've been to is Oak Cliff... other than that, I've only really been to Austin. It was rather interesting... very hepcat. I don't think I was there in present day.
