Has anyone noticed how late the leaves were to fall from the trees? We had a cold snap a few weeks ago but then it got really warm again. It's mid-November but in the past week I've been going out in short sleeves! The trees still aren't completely bare. Crazeh
It's supposed to get colder tonight apparently, all those northerly winds are coming down. I'm in for a soggy ride home tonight i think..!
Very very windy here in London today. With gusts of wind reaching fifty miles per hour in some places. I had to cycle to Mile End Ecology centre for Team Ltd open day. On the way back, I was caught in cross wind but yet it took only forty five minutes to get to Lewisham again. I hate it when the wind is blowing in all directions. It slows one down considerably. The leaves are finally being blown away and now will be the time to start raking up leaves for those with back and front gardens.
Oh and the rain tonight. Came crashing down and got all wet on the way back from Mile End A typical day in the life of J0hn. Friday 17th November 2006. Man it was windy. Hope weekend improves

Greetings from California! Lithium - I perceive from your post that it is extremely unusual for the leaves to fall so late in the season - so much so that you felt the inclination to submit a post about it. Reading your post was quite unsettling, because it speaks of another odd occurence happening in the environment here on Planet Earth. I want to relate it to the Global Warming thing ..... and it is beginning to become very clear that we have a serious problem on our hands. We are seeing changes everywhere now, and I find it absolutely frightening, because it seems to be that we've gone too far - it's too late. I grew up in Florida in the United States, and when I was a kid, we were lucky if we got one hurricane per season to sweep by our house. I reside in California now, and last year, I saw reports of what must have been 25 hurricanes that hit Florida! Actually, the tremendous increase in the number of hurricanes that arose is the first weather thing I noticed as being extremely odd, and I started taking note then of all the strange weather things happening. I saw reports of tornados in states that never, ever had a tornado before. I noticed reports of earthquakes in countries that had never experience an earthquake before. Floods were taking place at odd times in odd places. Then, I saw a documentary on the public broadcasting network here about the seriousness of Global Warming and it's effect on the planet. Every one of the scientists that were interviewed on the program conveyed how extraordinarily concerned they were about the state of the Earth as relating to Global Warming. They concluded the program with a very sobering statement, and it basically went like this: "We originally believed that the serious effects of Global Warming would not be taking place for another two-hundred years. We now know that it will be evident in ten or twenty years. And we don't know exactly what to do about it." They also stated that with the cooperation of various countries, that serious problems could be delayed somewhat, but that drastic measures would have to be taken. America is a major offender because of the lifestyle preferences and the non-caring attitude of a lot of the Americans (myself not included - sometimes I'm not proud to be one). Then, the Bush Administration basically turned their backs on enforcing any kind of resolution - in fact, Bush has decreased regulations for 'Big Business Corporations' in the not-too-distant-past by making it easier for them to pollute the environment, can you believe that? We have got to get that man out of office - he is truly frightening, and a real menace to society. Anyway, Lithium - seeing your post about the change in leaves falling is, to me, just another glaring sign of the drastic changes that are happening on the planet as a result of Global Warming. That's really bad, because now things are starting to go on everywhere - the scientists said we'd see little changes here and there, and your leaves not falling on time is one of 'em, I'll just bet. Insightful of you to notice; the wheels are definitely turning in your head - good going! Maybe there's a way we can spread the word in the forums to encourage the youngsters to participate in doing something about this problem - it's not going to go away. Very windy here too. Bad hail storms and torrential rain. Lost the back garden gate yesterday afternoon......but the flowers are out on the gorse bushes....
Last night it was really windy. Bashing against the windows like a wailing banshee and was getting concerned that it would get too severe. My apartment or upstairs is really in the roof of the building. Looks like we are in Autumn, bit late than usual but the good news is this winter will be an exceptionally mild one.
