Doing some comics and I need a black ink pen that gives a fine line, dark and solid that is smudge proof. Was considering rapidograph but don't want to pay for a whole set and not sure what size point would be good. Also need something without toxic solvents like Sharpies which give me a headache.

I'm not sure but is Rotring still going? They a great pens but if the point is too fine it can dry out pretty quick. :)

mars stadler makes a tecnical fountain pen (what rapidographs are) that's way hella easier to clean and maintain. double ought "00" is a good size for fine lines but not too fine (i've used 000 to put pupils in the eyes of 1/87th scale figures). both rapidograph and stadler can sometimes be found in singles, and replacement tips are available seperately. the four pen set used to not be such a bad deal, but it's been ages since i've had or used any.

i also really like the .05 and smaller super fine/"razor" point felt pens, (and they don't have quite as volitile aromatic solvents as the perminent ink used in sharpies), but i haven't been able to find them lately for the last year or two. up until that recently they were almost everywhere, stationary stores, graphic art stores, even occasionaly on the stationary isles in pharmacies and grocery stores. then, just that recently, they all seem to have mysteriously dissappeared.

of course they weren't for people who mash down on them with a heavy hand. maybe that's what took them off the popular market. but doesn't quite explain their dissapearance from places frequented by those who would know how to use them.

    good hunting in finding them
