ive been looking at getting a toy (or miniature) dog, and i was wonderin if u guys have any ideas?

i dotn want a chihauah (sp) - my nan has one and it has the worst temperment.

    Any suggestions?

i was looking at Silky terriers, or maltese terriers, if you know anything about these puppies, please post and let me know!

also, if you have any suggestions for any other breeds please let me know as it will be greatly appreciated! :)

    Thanx :)

I have a shih tzu, and she is an absolute love!! She is only 10 lbs (she is full grown), doesn't bark much, and loves to play and snuggle...and she gets along well with my cat. And, she doesn't shed much...the only drawback is that her hair grows long, and requires constant grooming...If you don't want to deal with that, shih tzu's may not be the breed for you.

I love Pugs too...it was between a Pug and a shih tzu when I got a dog...I don't have as much personal experience with them, but I think there are others on this forum that have them. They are usually very sweet dogs...the ones I have met have been just wonderful! There may be some small mixed breed dogs at a shelter too, if that suits your fancy...I got my dog from a breeder since I have no significant previous experience with dogs (I wanted to know pretty much what I was getting personality wise so that I could be reasonably sure that we would be well suited to each other), but there are a lot of options out there. Goodl luck!

WOW! That's a great find at a shelter!! I think they call those Teddybears.
I have a bichon, shitzu, poodle mix that they sometimes call teddybears or Daisy dogs and my mom just got a maltipoo (maltese poodle) and I think that's basically the same, just a bichon instead of poodle close enough. Hers almost died right after getting it, they are very delicate!!!

Good job in picking a shelter pup, they are usually the best suited for people, something about adopting em from a shelter, at least in my experience, makes em more eager to learn.
