Im 3/4 dutch and everyone on my dads side speaks it fluently, but I knowhow to say very few words and can write even less..I do wanna learn tho!
can you say Scheveningen? do you see the dutch side of the family often enough to go trough the trouble of learning the language or are they all living there??
i think dutch is hard to learn but here ill give you a word every day a new one ( lucky you :H ) English --- Dutch pie - taart remember it!
It may be old dutch, but schobbejak is still in the dutch dictionary. It means villain. Doerak means something like a rascal.
Im Dutch and i didnt know that word haha. Anyway, practise this: Zevenenzeventig kacheltjes branden in Scheveningen.
A language is what people speak, and if we dont use those words anymore, theyre not a real part of our language anymore. Although i do know what they mean, because ive heard them before.
Same here. German grammar makes no sense to me. However, i believe the dutch language is needless complicated as well and very hard to learn.
Since its my first language, i dont have that problem haha. But ive heard from many people that its a very hard language to learn, so good luck
yeah, most dutch deny their similarities to the germanic "aryan" race just bcuz of historical reasons. dutch is 50% english 50% german if you wanna know about a language's similarities with another language, then the primary words you look in would be geographical words and the calendar words. by the way, the true french is lost, it's latin (bcuz of the Roman Empire) and english is half german (the other half is latin)
