**sigh** man i swear im in a now win situation here....i quit smoking almost 2 months ago.....I have also gained like 20 pounds...i was alrwady a heavy girl but good lord this is ridiculous....i dunno what to do to curb the appetite either...anyone have any suggestions for me??
Lots of coffee? (joking) Is your problem an increased appetite or just the urge to be moving your hands to your mouth (shoveling food in is almost as satisfying as taking drags off a cigarette, right?)? When I quit smoking, my problem was the latter. I found other ways to keep my hands occupied -- lets just say I crocheted a couple of blankets (full size blankets, not little afgans!) in the 4 months or so after quitting smoking! When you really need to put something in your mouth, get carrot or celery sticks, or even pretzel sticks. Some people suggested suckers (like blow-pops or something, not just the little dum-dums that you can bite off right away)... I think that actually did help me, now that I think about it... If the issue is appetite, not just habitual hand-to-mouth movements, I don't know what to suggest other than investing in lots of healthy snacks, especially fruits & veggies.
why are you worried about the weight issue? I quit smoking because I got pregnant and I did not want to hurt my baby girl. If I did not get pregnant, and I thought it worthwhile to quit, I probably would just cut it off pounds or not.
the first time i tried to quit smoking i gained alot of weight too because i constantly had to eat to keep from feeling the need for cigarettes. it was fucking awful...
hmm.. I know. I gained weight too, from quitting smoking AND pregnancy, 30kg.. but at the same time I don't have trouble loosing it. when I study for my exams, I kind of forget to eat.. especially for one-nighters.
well the reason i quit smoking is because i am trying to get pregnant...but im worried about gaining weight because i keep hearing smoking lowers your chances of getting pregnant, being heavy lowers your chances of getting pregnant...i keep hearing all of that crap and dont know what to believe....im not worried about how i look...i love myself and my husband loves me to death...im worried about it for health reasons
Like others have already said, eat healthier foods. I just quit smoking and I've been eating everything in sight, especially snack foods. I need to gain weight but I've been trying to eat healthier too. Peace and love
i quit smoking and i had to keep my mind busy and my body busy. so i would go for long walks in the evening and i would meditate for a half hour or so in the morning. whenever i felt the urge to have a cigarette i would chew on some gum or on a straw. 6 months later i got pregnant with my son aiden. I heard that lil myth about being heavy will lower your chances of getting pregnant. that is a bunch of bologna my sister is on her fourth child and she weighs in at 254 right now after she had her thrid child she was about 270. i think that as long as you are healthy and in shape you should be fine. my sister she is heavy but she is also healthy and in shape. so if oyu really want to get pregnant i suggest that you should start to exercise and make better decisions on what you eat, dont eat 3 big meals a day eat 3 small meals and 3 snacks a day, exercise for at least an hour a day and drink lots and lots of water. it may take a couple weeks to even see the difference but i promise you it works i changed my entire eating habits and started exercising and i dropped 20 lbs within a couple weeks.
I know how you feel.. I gained so much weight it was crazy...But I went vegan a month after...and if you have the rigt balnace of stuff its healthy.... so I lost a lot of weight from that. But Im not saying go vegan, im saying try a healther diet...if you don have one. Like whole grains instead of white bread Snacks..like nuts or fruit, celery (its mostly water..little calories.) DATES...(so good + they are like 1.5 cals.) Protein what ever it may be... chicken, fish, beans, tofu Little fast food...I found I ate alot of that after smoking.. but yah I hope this has helped... good luck with the baby thing
Lol well than... Good for you... how long? It found I missed cheese to much *sorry kind of off topic*
^ That's a good idea. SDL, even if it's not a automatic move for you, you could try expending some of that "don't know what to do with yourself" energy with exercise. It might help with the weight, it'll take up time when you otherwise might be tempted to eat, and sweating is good for cleaning you out a bit as well (which is great when ridding your body of a harmful toxin like nicotine). For the same reason, I also highly recommend asking to take part in a sweat lodge ceremony. It's a good, spiritually grounded way to cleanse your body and mind. :sweatdrop
I had a teacher once say when giving up an addiction you substitute on addiction for another. So you need to find something to do everytime you want to smoke. like crochet or run. Something to take the place smoking once had in your life. The crappy part is trying to keep yourself from using food to fill that void. I would get a hooby. It is hard as hell to stop smoking but I commend you for doings it since you are TTC
^ Yeah, having a hobby (especially one that occupies your hands) is helpful. When I quit smoking I remember tying a lot of hemp and crocheting a lot. For some reason quitting came easily for me, though. I just woke up one morning after 7 years of smoking and it suddenly didn't sound good anymore. I'd just bought a can of tobacco the day before, too. The toughest times I had involved "rewiring" myself in the very beginning, because I had all these automatic triggers where I would thoughtlessly want to light up (even though once I did I remembered I didn't like smoking anymore...) For me it was hardest when I was walking outside or driving, because those were the activities that I *always* smoked for. Oh, licorice root is great also! Something sweet and tasty you can chew on for that oral fix.
yeah for me i smoked for like 3 years almost 4 and i thought yahno im trying to get pregnant..i want my kids to have a mommy around for a goooddd loonnnnggg time.....so boom no more ciggies...and monday nov. 20th will be 2 months for me..yay me Also humblebee your idea is great ill try it
Congradulations, sweet dread lover, for making two monthes without a smoke. You are doing great! Peace and love
