What do I do? I went for my first 8 milier in years yesterday and have blisters all over my heels,I can't look to the right without my neck hurting and my hipbones feel compacted into my legs. I started out at 2 miles, then 3 than 5 and then 8 yesterday.
My 5k plan said I am supossed to take today off and do another 8 tommorow but I can't see doing that. I ran a 9:15 per mile pace (on cross-country terrain), which is what I ran my 5's in. Lung and aerobic wise I felt great and was able to talk the entire run but body wise I feel compacted and sore and the blisters are the worst I have had in years.
Should I skip my 8 tommorow and rest, do a shorter run or what else do I do? I need to get my time down to 7:30/min on flat terrain by April to qualify for a 5k I want to run so I really don't have any time to waste at all.
Am I being a wimp and should I just tough it out and do another 8 tommorow? Help!?

are you doing any dynamic warmup prior to running?

exercises to loosen up your hip flexors seem like a great thing for you to do.

should you skip tomorrows run? i'd take the day off of running and try to get your blisters healed up. but i would start doing some dynamic stretching, to loosen up those muscles. april is still pretty far out, really don't want to mess up your training because you didn't take care of your blisters now -really dont' want them to get infected *ouch*

how did you feel after the 5 mile runs, anywhere near tihs sore?

no, nowhere near this sore. But I didn't run at all over the weekend...in fact I went almost a week. You think that is why?

I looked on the internet and it said that tightness in your hipflexers could because you are pounding downhill to hard, which I did because I was timing myself.
I have my running group on saturday so I wanna feel better by then. The blisters hurt so bad, even when I don't have shoes on.
I do need to spend time stretching I haven't even been to yoga lately or walked as a warm up. School just makes me feel presses for time.

you might have over-exerted yourself with an 8 mile run if you haven't ran in almost a week. an extra 3 miles adding on to a 5 mile run is a decent jump up.

a good exercise to hit your hip flexors is the warrior lunge. its an exagerated lunge, and you let you body drop down. and then you raise your hands over head. don't force the range of motion. i'll go through my mobility dvd in the morning and get some more exercises. and walking isn't a good warmout

i would let the blisters heal before saturday. are you still running with no socks?

yes): I hate socks): I know that's stupid and now that I need to get over it because I am in pain from it now. I'll wear socks on Saturday.

Thank you! It's that tiny muscle in there it hurts! and it's hard to find it to stretch it out.

moisture control is key in not getting blisters.

lots of people just use duct tape. there are socks out there that wick away the moisture too...

put a piece over the area that would become blistered... thats how i've always used it... but there might be a way to use it after the fact.

Have you heard of mole skin? Its not from a real mole (as a kid I used to cry when I got blisters because I thought a mole were going to die), but help with the discomfort of blisters a lot!

yea, you just put a piece of tape on the areas prone ot blistering

mole skin works too, but can get quite expensive

if your going to put the duct tape over the blister, i would atleast put some gauze over the blister before putting the tape on

get some neosporin or something and apply that.

unless you need to, don't cover them up, but clean them so you can protect from infectoin...it sucks the outer layer of skin came off since that usually protects it :(

I'm allergic to petroleum byproducts so I've been putting shea butter on them and gauze with like a bandaide over it when I'm in public so it's not noticible (it's still skirts and sandals weather)
