Tell me. Im going to be honest w/ my hipforumers, im afraid to die. Im scared shitless of growing old. I wanna stay a lazy ass, WEEDSMOKIN, 2pac lover, true mutherfucking 15 year old for the rest of my life.

I know i come in here and preach what i believe about the after-life and stuff, but trust me, until i hear from God, i wont be 100% about his existence. I dont want to die.

When I was about 17 I read a Castenada novel where the main character said, "Death is by your side every day of your life, so you may as well make it your friend."
For some reason that was enough to make me not afraid any more. I am 42 now, and still not afraid.
But.... I am with you on the 'I don't want to die.' point. I really don't want to die any time soon. When I do go, I have a feeling that I won't mind.
In fact, I wonder what will happen. Maybe it is just over. If so, or if not, no biggie.
But, after 20 years of thinking nothing could scare me, at the age of 39 I learned very well that I can be utterly terrified. It was a bit of a surprise to me.
I don't know if I want to live forever, certainly not in this life, but as a spirit... maybe.

Either there's an afterlife, or its curtains. If there's an afterlife, I think we can be assured that it won't be anything resembling the notions of traditional religions about it, and I don't think there's anything to fear. If there is no afterlife, then oblivion awaits us.

I'd prefer a longer life, and one in which drugs could be developed to keep the ageing process at bay. For me, it would be preferable to cease from this life if the time should come when one is left a disfunctional wreck.

I'm not afraid of death, and I do not want to live forever.

I'd get bored with infinity pretty quickly...

I'm terrified of death. Absolutely terrified. I love living too much, I love my family too much. I wish I could make time stand still. [IMG]

Man, I can't wait to die, mostly just so I can know exactly what happens when you die and hopefully answer some unanswered questions about the nature of the universe. I'm not gonna commit suicide or anything, but when I do die it should be interesting.

So I guess the answer is no.

Also, I would not like to live forever because it would get boring really quickly.

I'm not sure it would count as 'infinity' in the strict sense of the word - as I don't think infinity can have a beginning...so to live for an infinity of time you'd have to have always existed.
The Hindus say we have, but we've forgotten.

for a sufficiently ambiguous "thiz" as to render the statement nearly meaningless, that could actualy very well be true. there is also a slight problem with the "thiz" in question. as what i've been able to observe of "thiz" also has no stable and absolute peramiters as well.

reducio absurdum good for grins and grins good perhapse

I'm afraid to die RIGHT NOW...

Other than that, nothing about death bothers me..

Of course, as NOW keeps progressing forwards, at any point in time, I don't want to die.. I would only like to know that I acheived everything I possibly could, and that the timing had nothing to do with some crazy fuck in a car or carrying a gun...

If given the opportunity to live an extended life, I would gladly take it. Actually, with the future development of nanotechnology it's entirely plausible that we will be able to extend our lives hundreds of years or even indefinitely. However, even if we could extend our lives indefinitely, entropy will eventually be reached and the universe will become an entirely dark and cold void, and even the basic atoms that build everything will dissipate. Everything will come to an end at some point, but I'll do what I can to reach that point in time. I just want to see things through to the very end.

Life extending drugs would be great - but as Tim Leary said, it would imply space migration also, for obvious reasons.
Entropy is only a theory. Perhaps the big bangers are wrong - certainly, the theory seems to me to be in serious trouble.
But either way, if we could live for even a few hundred years, it would be better than this.

I kind of like the philosophy in Neale Donald Walsch's book, Conversations with God. Basically in this book, Neale has a supposed automatic writing session with God. God's dialogue is really comfortable and feels like it's coming from your best friend. In this book, God says we are all God trying to understand itself and that we always exist and choose the lives and lessons we want to learn. I've read a lot of spiritual books (eg. Carlos Castaneda and Aleister Crowley), but Neale's book is the only one that has brought tears to my eyes from it's beauty. I definitely recommend it, especially to those terrified of death.
