I really want to be a good hippie but the thought of using cloth diapers on my baby Alderan really freaks me out. I want to protect the earth and all but I'm having a hard time thinking i'm going to have to wash a diaper every time the little guy poops. Is using a bunch of water and soap really better than using a normal diaper?

Another thing is I don't have a laundry machine so I would have to use my sink.

I wore cloth diapers as a baby.....you just get a bunch of them, keep the wash going.
Not only is it environmentally conscious, it is way more comfortable for the baby. My mom loved using them and advocates using them....it's only baby juice

Had five babies who all wore cloth diapers, and I walked 1/8 mile to get two, five gallon buckets of water to rinse them, then walked a mile to the laundromat carrying the wet diapers in a backpack, thats how much I wanted to use cloth diapers on my infants. Hey, money was also a consideration, as I was in the lower income bracket of American society due to anti-establishment inclinations. And....Cotton just feels so good, and plastic just doesn't.

Well in the UK we call them nappies so for ease of my reference I'll call them that. Anyway, it's really easy, even if you don't have a washing machine, you can make up a soloution to soak them which cleans and disenfects, then you just rinse and dry them. I have three children and have used cloth the whole time except fot the first week where I had the pack of disposables for my hospital bag to use up. Once you get into a routine it's really easy. My youngest child has just turned two and is still in Motherease one size nappies (the best in my opinion) as they are fully adjustable to fit from birth to potty training. If you have any questions don't hestiate to ask, I'll be glad to help.:) .
