I'm VERY sceptical about the kids getting into classic rock. I've read that if you're a "hipster" (ie the type of person who lives in a suburb that's been dubbed "cool", wears designer clothes and hangs out at sidewalk cafes sipping cappuccinos where they can be "seen", or the kid at school who listens to punk just because of its image) it's cool to wear vintage clothing, particularly old band t-shirts. Nothing to do with the music - it's just the fashion right now. Listening to classic rock may be another similar phase.

i listen to alot of oldies. my favorite band is the doors, most of my "stoner" friends listen to the doors, zeppelin, bob dylan, and hendrix. im not saying that only stoners listen to that kind of music because some of my preppy friends also listen to marley and such. i dont know i guess it's just the taste for music certain people have. but im glad i have the doors :D

Good for you, man!!!! The stuff rocks, doesn't it? As for me, right now, I'm into Metallica's "Master of Puppets". It seems to speak of everything happening in my life right now.

Actually popular music now is just not what it used to be. Back in the old days just about everything you heard on the radio was good music. Good music was appreciated. the "top 40" nowadays sucks except for a phew exceptions. But you still can find good innovative music. Music just as innovative and phresh as the Beatles, Hendrix, Dylan, and all the other greats. Just head on over to the jam band scene my phriend and I'm pretty sure you'll phind some excellent music.

yeah im with you. i am liek one of the only ones who listens to the good old stuffcompared to all my friends. but then you know, if everyone starts listening to it, then it'll just be the norm. no unique stuff... im proud the we can distinguish ourselves, and we can have all our different tastes in music.
old classic rock and stuff is the shit for me, thats what keeps me going on, but you never know, its not always for everyone.

however, i hate those stupid kids who are like, oh you know, the beatles suck. or um.. jimmy hendrix? who's he? i dont even liek him , he's not punk. like - ok, have you even listened to his stuff that's done? all your stupid new rock bands got it all from somewhere, what did you think they just popped out of the side walk? no no no, they got from the people who were there before them. i hate that when they say they hate things that they even haven't tried. try it first, then say what you want.

I think the music was so much better back in the 60s, 70's and 80's. i mean theres some bands out now days that aren't half bad but i get sick of there sound easily, it's the classic stuff i can listen 2 forever and it still doesn't bore me. i love it! I know alot of people who are very much in to classic rock and old school metal, and especially classic punk.

i think that some more kids are getting into the classic rock/punk, i think its mainly cause the only thing the mainstream music sources play shit. But there's still a lot of kids who listen to mainstream..so there's still a very small percentage with good taste...just in my opinion.

most kids in my school are into 50 cent and ludacris and shit like that. they offer no respect for creativity. bands/people like Hendrix, The Who, Pink Floyd, and of course Led Zeppelin (just to name a few) have brought music to a whole new level and perspective and they are shunned away by so many. But, they are the weak ones and i hope the "rap trend" slows down and people realize the power of the true roots in classic rock.

all music is cool but I think like what John Lennon said about music is just a reflection of the age you are in is true and its what reflection that appeals to you I listen to a wide range of stuff and theres always going to be trends in whats cool I love michael jackson when I first got into him everyone was which was when dangerous was released and now its a candle kept burning by those who still love his music rather than this huge fire it once was and I'm sure it was same for strauss way back then people still love them but they're not in the charts at #1 anymore, man I got to stop writing crazy crap lol

Around here (in Belgium, and the rest Europe as well, i think) kids still listen to the rubbish that is played on mtv and the radio. Young people here don't listen to classic rock. Maybe that's just because we don't have any Classic Rock stations, and mtv doesn't play any music older than the nineties. So most kids never even heard a Doors song.

yeah. I hate it when kids say 'the beatles (or any other band) suck', just because it's old music. Judging a band by one or two songs is stupid, and sometimes they haven't even heard a single song. They just don't want to listen to music that was recorded before they were born.

Heh, yeah, I remember in 8th grade, people used to say I was "gay" because I listened to The Beatles. I never did understand that. Also, I used to have a friend who used to ask me why I listened to music that was "old." He said it was stupid to listen to "old" music. Now, he listens to 70's punk and claims that he never said that listening to classic rock is stupid. Heh, what a hypocrite.

Well, I spent the day at my friends house, and as she flipped thorugh her YM (young miss or something) she goes, "Hey, isn't that one of your old music guys?" So, I look at the magazine to see she is pointing at a picture of Pete Townshend! Now, I'm thinking, what the fuck is he doing here in a teenage fashion magazine. Under the heading "next big thing" was an article saying that the lastest fashion is faded jeans, leather jackets, and old music. They even recommended a CD collection of classic rock (Townshend was one of the faces on the cover, that's what the fuck he was doing there ;) ) . Ironically, the CD set in this magazine was the same one Roger Daltrey was selling in that infomercail. It was so very lame. :(

"Old music" is the "next big thing"? Give me a fucking break! Listening to classic rock is the cool thing to do now? That's fucking disgusting. If 10-year old girls start listening to The Who because it's "cool" and "everyone else is doing it," then I really think I'm going to fucking die. The editor of that magazine should seriously be killed. It would make the world a better place, no doubt. I'm serious too...

Well, what the hell are they thinking? Do they have to rape EVERYTHING good to make it "cool" for pre-puberty children!?!

Well, it could be worse. Trends pass, next summer they will move on to something new... techno maybe :p

but do you really think a bunch of 10-year-old girls are going to start to listen to The Who? I doubt it. Or maybe they will, maybe it's a good way to get the music out there. there are lots of ways to sprend the sound. Although I get highly pissed off when a Who song comes on and my friend says, "oh, the CSI song." So, not every way of popularizing the music works if the message is lost.

OR maybe it's part of this conspiracy theory I have that the entire teen-bop fashion world copies me! Anytime I walk into a store, they look at me funny. Next time I walk in to the store, the manican is wearing an outfit just like the last one I had on. Another example in my ego-based theory, last year everyone commented on how odd/ugly my poncho was. This year everyone has one! so now, after I discovered a little thing called rock & roll, got shit for it, they are copying me once again. those BITCHES! :p

    Peace,

there is good and the bad.

    lets go good first.

the Rock & roll ( true Rock n' Roll ) gives the kids something to look up to and enjoy without fear of getting called names, etc. for a while anyway. and as they get over they brag about there favorate music most of there life ( Rock n' Roll) which i may ad oldies to say have withstood the biggest test of all. the test of time! most new stuff is 'fast but weak' like new cars. lets see a 97 Olds last 50 years like my 57 Chevy 4 dr with teh origninal motor and still runs and in better shape then cars built as soon as 75! same thing with most music. but there are always exceptions though. like i listen tp most msuci from the 50's to 70's but i like some new songs. like Paul Mc Cartneys - Freedom made for the 9/11 incident. and Five For Fighting song Superman!

the bad- in the short run it is a bad idea. but ALWAYS look long term. Rap will soon be gone. because it was made for short term. get my drift. so remember LET the kieds listen to classic Rock. just tell them if you listen to the music listen to the meaning. what it is trying to tell you. if they give you crap tell them what are you doing listening to this then? this musics intention is to change the world for the better and your not even doing anything. if they give you crap again tell them " then amaze me! go out and go pro or anti - the war, abortion, gay marrage. etc.

    later

conclusion- ither way there is pros and cons.

    the tired flower child
