this might be a stereotypical question to ask in a music forum but what are peoples favourite songs and why?

mine is 'Going to California' by Led Zep, because I love that mandolin part and the way Robert Plant sings is amazing

I go through periods during which I listen to a particular song over and over again. These periods can last anywhere between two days and a week. This week my favorite song is "Miss Brown's Tea House" by the String Cheese Incident. The one done in Birmingham, Alabama on April, 19 2002 is the best. Excellent version. Excellent show. I think you can download it for ten dollars at www.friendsofcheese.com. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

anyways my favorite song lyrically is definately Terrapin Station by Robert Hunter/ Grateful Dead

My favorite jam is Dark Star by the Grateful Dead. Incredible. If you haven't heard it download it. That means you Sedge! you wont be disappointed

For some strange reason, a song I can't get enough of right now is "Tracks Of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. I heard it on my road trip to Michigan (Motown to be exact, thank you) a few weeks ago and I just love it, so I bought a CD of it on there. So great...

I have decided never to pick a favorite song. However, I do have "my" song. This is different. Your favorite song, is just that. "Your song" is an excuse to make a fool out of yourself for the love of rock&roll. If one is to make the commitment and call one song, "their song", it comes with responsabilities. First, if said song is to come on the radio and you are alone, all tops are off, all ridiculous dance moves are in effect. If "your song" comes on the radio anywhere else, one must at least jump up on the nearest table, scream, "OOOOO THIS IS MY SOOOOOONGG!!!!!!" and sing along. It's all very complex see, you can't fuck it up. ;)

That being said, my song is by The Rolling Stones, "I Know it's Only Rock&Roll" .

damn good song. Not my favorite or the best by that band even. but gosh darnit. It's mine!! WOO HOO!

Let's not talk about Robert Plant's incredibly gorgeous voice. I might not be able to take it. Just, too gorgeous.

My favorite song would have to be by Nick Drake. I think it would be either River Man, Fly, or Parasite. If you haven't heard of him, and if you can listen to quiet beautiful music, check out the album "Pink Moon." It's a masterpiece, no kidding.

Dark Star is a great jam! I saw The Dead play it at 'roo, and I was so stoked. Check out String Cheese if you haven't yet, they're totally worth it. Very groovy.

I go into dance spasms when I hear Danzig's 'Mother'. I would hop on a table and sing along at the top of my lungs.
A close second would be...well, just about everything Steely Dan plays.
