I'm sick of chewing food so I've decided to go on a liquid diet for a few days, mainly consisting of soup, smoothies (fruit, superfood and protein) and also tea. Has anyone done this before? I'm just sick of the whole digesting thing and figured if it's liquid to begin with I will forgo that whole part of it with the chewing and internally breaking it down.

sick of chewing? how lazy is that? (WINK-just ribbing ya)
as for a few days on liquid, you will still digest the food.
I have problems with my teeth and I like juice fasts and I stay with liquids for up to 8 days straight with no ill effects.

Yes, I have tried the liquid fast before. It actually cleanses the blood. Just don't overdo it.

i've done long periods of just oranges
and a couple relatively short fasts 10-12 days (ram das offered me french fries on day 7 of the 1st fast lol)
but a few days on a good liquide diet can be good for you
as long as its not like an eatting disorder thing
try 7 days...ive only done water only fasts so i dunno if a just liquid diet would give u any indications like the yellow tongue as a guide to know whens good to stop
break the cycle to ssolid food again gently
my 1st was an ethiopian feast i broke it with andwas totaly incapacipated after

Ha! If you saw how I eat on a daily basis you wouldn't even think to say such a thing. :)

I'd say its more of a disgusted thing than a lazy thing.. really the whole chewing/digestion thing grosses me out, I figure I'd give myself a break from at least the chewing with the juice and soups.

But really, have you listened to some people eat? Gross!

haha, i don't mind chewing if i'm doing it or if people are kind of keeping it to themselves - but yeah, some people are horrible eaters. My flatmate is one...he chews so loudly that you can hear it over the radio or tv, even if you are across the other side of the room...i've never once seen him close his mouth while he eats...uuuuggggh....

  12. Oh man, I used to live with a guy like that. It was almost enough to make you throw up. I developed real skill in making other noises and not looking at him.

Good luck with the juice thing - you'll have to keep us posted on how it's going. :)

Well so far I havn't started it... or havn't started and kept on keeping on. I am going to the doctor tomorrow about possible food alergies/sensitivities, I think that apple might be one, not sure, but some of the juice and smoothies I started drinking contained apple juice and I got the same icky feeling that I get when I eat an apple. We shall see, I will let you know how the juice thing goes, I'll probably start on Sunday, I have a thing about starting things either on the 1st of a month or on Sundays.

Yes, I did this for awhile, and no it had nothing to do with my eating disorder. I did it because I have trouble digesting a lot of things, and this helped me a lot.

I made a lot of smoothies.... and not strictly fruit smoothies. I blended lots of raw veggies and/or fruits.

I also drank a lot of V8 when I got too lazy to make smoothies.

I did it for about 4 or 5 days. That was all I needed to start feeling better, though I'd expect if you're still getting all the things you do eating solid food, you should be just fine.

Try protein/soy shakes for your source of protein... you can mix most of them with other yummy fruits and such. You can add soy milk to other blended foods as well for other vitamins, protein, and what not.

I like the idea, myself, because I have an issue with chewing properly...it's not that I don't like chewing, it's simply that I never chew carefully enough and end up swallowing huge pieces of things, that just don't sit well in my stomach, and I end up near-choking at times, lol. I eat kind of fast, and it's difficult for me to change...if you're anything like that, blending your food can be a good solution I reckon.

I also think, you don't have to just rely on liquid things to avoid chewing... take mashed potatoes for example...they aren't really liquid, but you don't have to chew them. I would try things like that too, possibly.

sidebar: I wouldn't recommend relying on a straw, either. That can make you pretty darn gassy.

Hey thank you everyone for your tips/advice. I went to the dr today and am going back on Monday for some blood work to test my thyroid and cholesterol (yeah, my cholesterol has always been really low, I told them that but they still want to test it) then next week (not this Monday but the one after that) I am going to the allergist. I plan on starting the liquid thing this Sunday since the test on Monday is to be a fasting blood test... we will see how it goes. I've got all my smoothies and soups ready to go, I'll let you all know how I do and what comes of it.

I've gone on a liquid diet several times for tooth extractions... NONE of my baby teeth ever came out on their own so they ALL had to be pulled.

I got by on tons of loverly things full of dairy. But soy yogurt would work well, and so would applesauce, veggie broths, tomato soup, smoothies, maybe a soy or tofutti yogurt for "fun?"
    love,
    mom

I know this guy who went on a liquid fast for 30 days and lost 25 lbs. The only reason he did it was because he ate and smoked way too much. He said it was one of the best things hes ever done for himself.

^^ that sounds more like detox, and "party line" is that detox may result in weightloss, but it is not teh REASON to detox.
It is easier to change eating habits when you stop eating your normal pattern for a while.
I know folks who wrestled withdesiring to be veg for years, detoxed on Master Cleanse and happily went veg for good afterward.
