I'm really interested in ancient mysteries like the pyramids, or Easter Island, things like that. Anyone know of any good websites with information about different theories, and has anyone here got an opinion?

    yes

my theory is that the pyramids were built to even out the ancient egyptian economy

the flood of the nile would have brought unemployment to egypt for months at a time

to stop people spending too much and driving inflation through the roof, or vast armies of unemployed going hungry etc the pyramids were created to reduce inflationary pressures caused by the nile flooding. it was a kind of keynesian economy.

(i find it doubtful that "aliens" would travel billions of km's to create rock piles )

Aliens abducted the Mayans and pyramids across the globe were created to map the earth so that one day, aliens could once again come to Earth and this time take over. Maybe.

easter island isnt really a mystery. the statues were tributes to kings and they thought the kings spirits lived in them. since they were isolated, they eventually ran out of food and wood and after 1000 years of peace, they had civil war. most starved and the rebels destroyed the statues. then the europeans sailed by and took the survivors inot slavery. sad sad story. also somewhat a warning to the world. we are running out of resources and becoming over crowded like them. they are no more, what about us?

The OP mentioned a mystery of the pyramids. What mystery is there about the pyramids?

Well there are dozens of pseudo-scientists out there who would swear that the pyramids were built by aliens - and could offer up proof as to how.

For instance the blocks of sandstone were too heavy to move by conventional means, so they must have been moved by a portable anti-grav unit stored aboard the mother-ship.

My goodness! I thought that was as discredited as Velikovski's comet theory book.

Aside from aliens, there are also alot of other theories about the pyramids, like this one.

I found an interesting book a few weeks ago called 5/5/2000-Ice: the ultimate disaster, by Richard Noone. It's all about how the planetary alignment on May 5, 2000 could have resulted in a polar shift and that the Egyptians built a prediction of the event into the architecture of the Great Pyramid.

It's been out of print for a while now, but it's available on Amazon.

I thought that was an interesting take on the pyramid mysteries. It's certainly an unusual point of view, anyway.

A polar shift?? Do you mean a shift in the direction of the earths axis of rotation? The engery needed to change that much angular momentum is huge, far more than the gravitational pull of the planets. They are far from us and gravity is a inverse square force. Any planetary alignment has a tiny effect on the earth.

The heat of friction between the magma and the crust ajusting to the new direction of rotation would have melted the planet.

Finaly, the time of sunrise at summer solstice would have been changed. The Druids at Stonehenge would have noticed that their annual ritual didn't happen at the correct siderial time. The wrong stars would have been on the horizon at sunrise for the last six years.

There was no polar shift in 2000.
If the Egyptions built a prediction of a polar shift into the pyramids, they were wrong.

There are lot of calculations that match the size of the earth and the place of stars to be find in the architecture of the Egyptian pyramids though, but my guess still is they were built by humans. Most of the pyramids have been dated and even the names of the kings who ordered to built them are known.
Still, books from writers like Erich von Däniken are fun to read! Just keep an open but critical mind.

i prefer Sitchin's work, as his research was done more recently - his scope of linguistics is impressive!

When Noone talked about polar shift, he meant that the axis would stay the same, but the earth would tilt by approx. 90 degrees upon it, moving the south pole from Antartica to somewhere around California.

This shift would be caused by instability of the polar ice cap combined with the extra gravitational pull exerted on the Earth by the alignment.

While the Egyptians were wrong (assuming you believe Noone's theory) about the polar shift, they would have been right about the alignment, which came off just as predicted.

5/5/2000 was originally published in 1982, so the new age community had several years to debate the possiblity, which they did right up to the May 5th, 2000 date.

There was a wide range of theories about the possible effects a planetary alignment of this type would have on the Earth, but most in the new age field agreed that a polar shift was a pretty extreme possibility.

In so far as I know, Richard Noone was the only writer in the pre-millennial new age movement to directly link the Egyptians with the 5/5/ 2000 alignment.

The South Pole is (by definition) on the axis of rotation. Move the South Pole to CA and you have moved the axis of rotation considerably.
